Download issues, DxDiag & HiJackThis included
*edited*
And now I'm getting a "bad input" message while trying to finish putting my DxDiag in. *sigh*

I know I've been gone a while, but what the heck is up with all the "bad input" messages I keep getting? I just wanna copy & paste, you stupid message board!

The forums attempt to unparse anything that looks code-like, and that can lead to the bad input.
Also, there is a limit to how much text can be in a post, and that will also call the bad input.
Instead of posting the DXDiag in here, save it as a text file, upload it, and link to it.
Also, in addition to HiJack This and DXDiag, you should include a copy of the report from CoH Helper.

Biggest Troll on the forums? I'll give you a hint:

Well, since the mods haven't deleted this yet, here's how I spent my day yesterday:
I took all day and deleted anything from NCSoft & CoH, and started fresh. It took till midnight last night to download and then attempt to install the game. I say attempt, because when I woke up this morning, I found this in an error box:
"The process cannot access the file 'C:\Program Files\NCSoft\City of Heroes\~PS\PatchProgress.xml' because it is being used by another process."
And no matter how many times I try to reinstall the game, that same message pops up along with a LONG log file.
Downloaded the Helper, ran it, and got a window with red circle, a white 'X' in the middle of it. The window said:
"Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately.
Value was either too large or too small for an Int32."
And then I can open details and it seems to be another huge log file. Suggestions?
See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.
For example:
<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>
When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.
when I woke up this morning, I found this in an error box:
"The process cannot access the file 'C:\Program Files\NCSoft\City of Heroes\~PS\PatchProgress.xml' because it is being used by another process." And no matter how many times I try to reinstall the game, that same message pops up along with a LONG log file. |
Once you load up in Safe Mode, go to C:\Program Files\ and see if the \NCSoft\ and/or \City of Heroes\ folders are still there. If they are, delete them. Then, reboot normally, and try to install.
At lot of times, files won't be removed during the Uninstall process because they're "in use", and either need a reboot, or a boot into Safe Mode, to have them no longer be in use, and deletable.

Well, I don't know what happened, but the game works now. I tried it on a lark around 1 pm today, even though the NCSoft Launcher said the game wasn't installed. Just figured I'd give it a shot. But I'll give your advice a shot too after I get off work tomorrow morning if I'm still having hiccups.
Well, now. That's a nice surprise!
I hope it continues to work for you.
