DBs and Traps: Defender vs Corruptor

I am thinking of making a DBs/Traps (or Traps/DBs). I am not sure which AT to choose.

I know corr does more damage; whereas def more debuff. But what I learn from sonic/sonic is that, even though corr can out-damage a def, a def will do enough debuff to out-damage a corr with the right combos.

Is that also true for DBs pairing with Traps?

Thanks

Swords and Traps together at last?

I cant tell you what difference the extra debuff from a defender makes. I can tell you I have never missed those few percentage points on my Corr.

Not really. The main case where a Defender consistently out-damages a Corruptor is with Sonic Blast. Traps shifts it even more towards the Corruptor since they deal Blaster level damage with Trip Mines (if you want to go that route)

For Traps the main advantage of the Defender is actually the Defense. FFG gives about 5% more defense for a Defender (assuming ED capped enhancements) which is a pretty significant boost.

This and the Pool powers are superior for defenders, Making softcapping them a joke with little negatives, while corruptors will struggle and make many sacrafices such as no permahasten.

Nope.

Here's my Fire/Traps build, softcapped to s/l without FFG, 106% global recharge. If you were okay with needing FFG to softcap (which is presumeably the case if the superior defense of Defender FFG is being touted) then it's even easier (and cheaper).

Softcapping a /Traps with Scorpion Shield is trivially easy. Softcapping ranged, less so. But since PGT and Trip Mine are both PBAoEs, why go for ranged def on a Trapper?

I have a Traps/Ice with 115% global rechage recharge, that is softcapped to All types and positions quite deeply without scorpion shield, and has FORCE OF NATURE 50/50 uptime/downtime.

My ranged defense alone is able to handle Trial enemies, 1 purple caps the rest of vectors and types to trial enemies.

Lets be clear: Softcapped to All types and Vectors > Smash, Lethal, Energy.
That with the superior Triage Beacons, Better Damage and to hit debuffing with Seeker Drones (which I can double stack easily) my defender will survive things that would chew up your Corruptor.

What happens when you run into mobs that don't use smash, Lethal or energy? Are you 60% to Smash, Lethal and Energy (I assume so with FFG I hope)?

My point stands.

Your Defender being softcapped to all types and positions doesn't prove your point. You said that Corruptors will struggle to softcap and make many sacrifices (such as permaHasten level recharge) to do so.

Demonstrably false.

If you meant that Corruptors couldn't be softcapped to all vectors and types without major sacrifices, maybe, I've not tried. That's not what you said, however.

I can't open your build as I am at work, But depending on what you skipped, I might still say you made sacrafices on things I deem important.

Basically my point is Corrupters cannot achive the levels of survival that defenders can. Just not possible.

Both Types of traps are great, corrupters are tough and do the best damage, Defenders are significantly more tough, and do ok damage (solo).

Ooops, I meant to say Dual Pistols...

Anyway, I have just made two identical builds for both Defender and Corruptor. Their are just rough builds for comparison and need some polishing later. But the points are: damage-wise corrputor is not that much far ahead (until Scourge kicks in) and defence-wise defender is way too much ahead. If both use Incendiary Ammo (DoT), the Achilles' Heel pros should hopeful fire off often.

So, when up against a tough target, I think a Traps/DPs Defender would deal more overall damage for being able to stay up longer and sustain fire longer; whereas a DPs/Traps Corruptor would struggle a bit to stay alive but will eventually catch up and pull ahead in terms of damage when Scourge starts to take effect.
