Will this setup work for a SS/WP brute?
Please post data chunks. The link does not work for some people. Also post your goals for the character. It is hard to give you specific advice to help you achieve your goals without knowing them.
Air Superiority is not a good attack. I'm not sure if you planned on using it in your attack chain. Hover can be used as a defensive toggle and it stacks with Combat Jumping. If you can tolerate using it in combat, Hover may help you reach your goals for defense.
I suggest skipping the Flight pool completely. Jetpacks are easy to get and fly at capped speed, I think. The other travel powers are significantly faster than Fly. If you require Fly for your theme, you didn't say so.

Air Superiority isn't a bad attack. It has guaranteed knockdown, and it is probably the best attack available in a power pool. If your concept calls for flying, but you don't want to spend all your time in combat hovering, Air Superiority is the way to go.
Also, I don't know for sure, but I don't think you can use Foot Stomp while hovering. That alone, if it is true, is reason enough to skip Hover.

The purpose of the character is soloing/badge hunting.
As for flight, I took it purely to make getting badges easier (and for Air Superiority since the juggle seemed to mesh well with SS). I haven't really decided a final concept on the character yet, I may give her some tech wings in the long run or I may not. Since I've been gone from the game for over a year I have no idea if AS will really be needed in a single target attack chain, I know I used to use it a lot. If I did drop flight and AS I'm not really sure what I would replace them with honestly. Super Jump of course, but what else?
Also, I despise hover, I would never take it for any reason outside of IO slotting.
Looks good. However, I'd consider dropping Strength of Will and put in Super Speed instead, for two travel powers. Mostly because I've never used Strength of Will, and everyone and their mother seems to have Super Speed these days, so having it is important to keep up with teammates if you plan to team often.
Any time I see a melee character with Fly, I assume it is for concept.

@Celestial Lord and @Celestial Lord Too
I do not plan to team all that often other than some badge hunting, and even if I do end up teaming more often than planned I'm not taking a travel power I dislike just because everybody else seems to have it. Important powers sure, I can find room, but travel powers...nah. I'll fly or SJ, taking two travel powers seems like a monumental waste to me.
I suggest taking Super Speed for the stealth bonus. Hasten is a must-have for most builds, anyways. With a stealth IO in Sprint, you can be effectively invisible to all critters that don't have perception buffs while running Super Speed and Sprint. For vertical travel, Raptor Packs are available at vendors for 10,000 INF.
About the only issue with that is that I really, really don't like Super Speed ^^; Flight is my preferred method of travel, especially after slotting it with some speed enhancements. I know you can buy raptor packs but they are slow compared to real fly.
So other than the fact I despise SS there's no real issues with the power choices?
The raptor packs used to be slower than fly. Now they're not.
After flight speed got a boost (much appreciated for hover!) the Fly power caps flight speed unslotted, as do any of the fly temp powers.
But they give you that ugly *** pack so screw 'em. Most of my characters fly, melee or not, and more have hover than air superiority.
As for your power picks I leveled a SS character to 50 using only pool attacks (boxing, air sup, jump kick, and kick) and he did just fine. It's a combo you literally can't screw up so long as you take everything from the secondary (self rez excluded, unless you really want it for concept).
Weight training: Because you'll never hear someone lament "If only I were weaker, I could have saved them."
Keep SoW, crashless 2 min buff. Kept me on my feet during many a ITF. No Taunt? I used to never take taunt on my Brutes for years. A lot has changed. Free Health/Stamina. AND they made it harder to get that rage bar clocked. Without a high Rage Bar you are a fragile Tank. Taunt is wonderful Hasten? I wouldnt take it on this build. Then again, when I ran my SS/Will I had 5 purp sets and LOTGs falling off him like jewels. The main reason for rech IMO on this build is Footstomp, of course. You have so danged many redundant melee attacks there is no reason to RECH the build, and your secondary is either passives or toggles. But that FS needs to be up as often as possible, so know that as your building for RECH that its all about that one power and think how deep you need to dig that hole before you start.
For the most part I'm not so sure if I'm going to be aiming for a recharge build, I may go for more health/regen instead. In the long run I have no idea on that front, I don't normally worry about serious IO gathering until 50 (other than basic IOs which I start using instead of SOs). I may end up somewhat recharge focused, I may not, I'm not sure yet.
I am a bit worried about taking Soul Mastery instead of Energy Mastery though, I tend to like the extra endurance and recovery buffer. Granted Focused Accuracy isn't needed for the most part in a SS build (and tends to eat about 80% after slotting of the buffer when it's on)
Where do you actually buy a raptor pack anyway o.0

Gloom is almost as good as KO Blow for DPS. Take it!
The main reason I avoid going into very heavy defense slotting is it tends to be expensive, everybody loves to heavy defense slot (it is effective after all). I find if I tend to aim for health/regen and resistance I can still survive a very long time and it costs a fraction of the price. I'm not all that rich, only sitting on ~150m so I can't even come close to affording some of the high end sets yet.
Choosing between flight/SJ for some reason is driving me batty. I know I can purchase temp flight so it makes the power seem like a waste to take. On the other hand having temp flight run out on me when I'm in the middle of some zones (that one with all the floating islands in 'space' comes to mind, forget what its called, weird place) could be really obnoxious. They only last what, 30 minutes? Or can you buy a better one? It would free up a power slot if I took SJ though since I wouldn't need hover or air superiority. Could take taunt then in theory, dunno. Maybe maneuvers instead.
Anyway, small update for the time being. Maneuvers is in the same spot taunt would go if I want with that instead.

Don't let INF be an obstacle that prevents you from making a more effective build. Defense really is multitudes better than just HP and regen bonuses. Here is my mini-guide to making enough INF to get anything you need out of the market, without dealing with the high risk and high initial investment of "playing" the market:
No build is out of your reach, unless you just don't put forth the effort. Yes, purple sets are extremely expensive. However, there are equivalent non-purple sets that offer a lesser recharge bonus, and using those won't break the build. You can gather INF in short periods of play time. You don't even need a "farming" character to get started. Some people don't like playing the market because it is risky and it takes a decent amount of INF to get started. I suggest doing tip missions and collecting Hero or Villain merits. You can easily gather tips in Terra Volta by killing grey-con bosses. The trip there is fast if your SG base has the teleporter for it. That should take less than 5 minutes. On villain side, the island in the South-East part of Sharkhead has a good amount of level 20 bosses on it. Next, stealthing or running to the objectives for each mission should take less than 5 minutes per mission. Once you learn which tip missions are annoying or hard for you to do quickly, you can dismiss them while in Terra Volta so you only get the tips you want to do. Overall, it should take you about 30 minutes per day to do tip missions as long as you're not using Fly as a travel power. It may take you longer at first, but the speed will come as you learn the mission layouts and learn which ones to skip. Do the morality mission when your alignment is full. If you're on Hero side, the alignment mission that has you fight your mysterious double is significantly easier and faster than the one requiring you to rescue a bane spider. After four days, you should have two Hero or Villain Merits. Turn those into a Luck of the Gambler: Global Recharge IO and craft it and sell it on the market. That should get you about 150 million INF. Do that three to five times and you will have more than enough INF to get your character into almost any IO set build as long as it doesn't have purples or PvP IOs. There are other IOs worth buying but the market changes all the time and I don't have time to look up what is the most valuable. The point is that almost any character is capable of earning enough INF in a short amount of time per day. You don't have to already have a "farming" character to make enough INF to get into the IO market. |
Well thanks for the money guide certainly, I'm surprised the price on those things hasn't floored with information like that around but they still go for ~150m on Virtue. Not that I'll be stealthing through the missions without SS (still don't like SS) but at least I'll have the missions to do.
Still, I don't know if I want defense. You can laugh all you like but I prefer my stats to always work vs sometimes work, even if that sometimes is 80% of the time.
For the moment I'm just trying to get ideas on my power choices now that they've been modified a bit, not worry about my IOs :P
|
It is a very useful and powerful ability, I will give that to you, but I wouldn't label it a 'Must-Have'. I would call it a 'Should-Get' power. The power that you Should Get if you can spare the power slot. One slotted with a recharge it is a very useful and powerful tool.
Of course if you take Super Speed and don't have a 60 month badge, you have no reason NOT to take it.
Just as a note, I am only looking at power selection at this moment, not actual slotting. I just want to make sure I'm not shooting myself in the foot or anything. Later on I'll work out actual slotting but for the time being I just want to make sure I'm not going to regret anything here in the short run.
