Nvidia OpenGL Driver crash

I'm having a freeze, error, then crash with the above title when attempting to select a server. Happened just after I turned up my graphics settings a bit. Error text is as follows:

Your hardware configuration does not meet minimum specifications needed to run the application. The application must close. Please visit nvidia support etc.
Error code: 7

Notably, I can run safe-mode just fine, but any ultra-mode settings will not allow me to log back in. This has persisted through one reinstall. Are there any known solutions for this problem? CoH Helper data is as follows:

You may want to try uninstalling and doing a clean reinstall of the nVidia 270.61 drivers.

If that doesn't work try stepping back to the 270.51 drivers.

If THAT doesn't help, try the 267.59's.

If that fails contact the card vendor to see if you can get a replacement card.

He can play any Steam game like Assassin's Creed 2, Gmod, etc. without ANY issues, but I reckon none of those are OpenGL...so I hope his card isn't broken. (I have the same PC but a slightly smaller C drive, and mine's going fine on the 270s, we JUST got them yesterday)

Okay, using Nvidia's "clean install" option AND Driver Sweeper to install drivers, the lowest one mentioned worked. Once. It was set to the settings above, but with a little bit of safe mode thrown in (somehow) -- world detail, character detail, particles, view distance were all at minimum and we upped them, restarted City and it broke.

On the 270 driver it crashed on server select (after running fine the first time, and put to the settings mine and his list up there were at, with Jg's nvidia guide settings too). On the one before that, it crashed either there if he chose a server he had a character on for a while, elsewise on loading the map the character was on when the loading bar was 3/4 done. On the lowest driver, it was entirely on loading screen, after it had worked the one time. Again, it ALWAYS works with safe mode, and he can turn up some settings like enviro reflections, FSAA, water to maximum and it plays fine for at least a few minutes, but it can't play on exit and restart.

It works fine for non openGL games. It works wonderfully, in fact. We'll take it in to the shop we bought them from, and give them the settings that work in my twin-puter, and see if they can fix it so his account can at least run those settings, since they work for me for hours at a time.

Any extra ideas about why it might not work/a home fix? I don't know why it'd not work for City but fine for everything else.

Okay, try stepping back on the drivers. See if either of the older ones mentioned works.

See the post above yours - we've done 270.61, 270.51, and 267.59. They all work fine in safe mode. They will work if booted in safe mode, then increased in graphics. After an increase in graphic quality they will crash upon server select (not to the character screen yet) or while loading the map the character is on. This is using both NVidia "clean install" and Driver Sweeper to reload drivers to try to ensure they're completely uninstalled before installation.

It can't be the [general] card OR the driver OR the settings because I can do it all just fine minus the server crappiness lately and I have the same card, the 270.61 driver, and the settings much higher. (And same processor and mobo)

I'd pop the side off and make sure everything is nice and firmly seated. Then try one more time.

If that doesn't work, get on the horn immediately and talk with the system integrator. Let them know the machine is failing. YES, it MAY only be failing in this ONE game. But the fact that you have an identical machine that works just fine points out that it's unlikely to be the game that's at fault.

One other dumb idea.

  • Click on the Start button.
  • Right-Click on Computer.
  • Select Properties.
  • Click on Device Manager
  • Open up the Network Adapters section.
  • Right-click on your network card.
  • Select Properties.
  • Look for a Power Management tab.
  • If you have one, UNcheck everything on it.
  • Okay your way back out.
I've run into bizarro problems that would seem entirely unrelated to the NIC on various network apps before. I'd eventually track them back and turn off power mgt. Then the problems would cease.

Apparently power management for NICs in Windows can be relatively dumb and disruptive. For web browsing and e-mail, stuff that can be stopped, restarted, etc, no big deal. For something requiring continuous connections, it doesn't always work out so well.

Thanks for all the help, but this morning the error magically does not appear, so I assume my GC got over whatever hissy fit it kept throwing. Perhaps the new driver finally took full effect or something.

EDIT: Nevermind, I can only now log in about 50% of the time. Hm.

DOUBLE EDIT: Now 100% broken again.

I've been through this quandary as well. My problems were with a older 9500 series card, the 260 series drivers, and I17/Post-GR. In essence, I was dealing with the same exact kind of issues your running into now.

I could never get it resolved to any kind of playable state. I tried pretty much everything suggested above, expect for the NIC mention, and still no help. Even upgrading to a new GC (a 450 series) and fresh driver install didn't help.

What I eventually had to do was a clean OS reinstall and figure out what other software was screwing everything up. I think I had figured it out and everything's been going as fine as I can have it on a nearly 4 & 1/2 yr old machine.

As of right now, I have the 450 running w/a 266 Driver set in and the 9500 is now replaced a 9400 in a secondary machine and running City w/similar drivers as well.

I know this may now be what you really want to hear, but be ready to look at that option, if you need to.

Thank you for the time...

I like the way my programmer husband puts it.

"The client is calling for something that Nvidia is not doing a check for.""It's on both sides."

That's a pretty simple way to put it. We had a similar problem with ATI, Apple and Lightwave's Modeler a few years back and finally everyone caught up with each other and it was sorted. It went on for months with everyone denying responsibility... lol, but the logs, at least, showed it.

We can run around in circles doing tests and changing drivers but nothing's gonna fix this except game and driver programmers being in sync.
