Dark Armor Tanker issue?

I recently dusted off my Dark Armor tanker to bring her build up to date. I've been doing some BAF runs and noticed an "oddity."

I was on a BAF run that herded up the AVs to the ambush spawn point to farm the adds. The idea was for the tankers to keep the AVs busy while everyone else focused on the adds. I was one of 3 tankers playing with Nightstar. One of the tankers got Sequestered 2 times and moved out of melee range. I was trying to pull/aggro Nightstar off of him. Despite attacking and taunting continuously in melee range, Nightstar completely ignored me. After about of minute of this (yes the other tanker got Sequestered) I turned Cloak of Darkness off on a hunch. At that point Nightstar immediately aggroed on to me.

I tested this a few times on the fly, but I seemed able to consistently grab aggro with Cloak of Darkness off and failed miserably when I turned it on.

I was aware of the challenges of Dark Armor tankers getting aggro from neighboring spawns due to the stealth aspect of Cloak of Darkness, but I never failed to get aggro off something I was actively attacking. I am aware AVs can resist taunt effects, but this seemed different to me.

Anyone else experience this? I've been away awhile, so was this identified as a Dark Armor Tanker issue previously?

Hoping for some sort of workaround, 'cause it kind makes a Dark Armor tanker pointless.

I have not noticed this. In fact, I have been sequestered several times by both Nightstar and Siege while playing my Dark Armor tank because other tanks were unable to pull the aggro off of myself. It's not a problem, so long as I'm sequestered out of range of the team, of course. I never turn Cloak of Darkness off.

Is your taunt slotted at all? Were you running your other taunt auras?

EDIT: Perhaps he was a shield or invuln tank who was also spamming his taunt, regardless of his warnings. Are you aware that, to steal aggro, you need to double the threat of who has that aggro currently? Shield and invlun are notorious for their strong aggro auras. If the player wasn't paying attention to his own warnings and simply playing like he does against any other AV, there's not much you can do about that.

Just to chime in here, not that Dechs needs any additional support on a Dark Armor issue, but I've also been taking the trials on my Dark/Elec Tanker and I've also been sequestered or nearly sequestered many times. Cloak of Darkness has not at all impeded my ability to get noticed by AVs.

In fact, I've never really had any trouble getting and holding aggro period on my DA tank and I feel the so-called 'problems' with DA holding aggro are grossly overstated and probably need to go away. While I understand the concern players have in theroy with having a stealth power on an AT whose role involves maintaining the notice of NPCs, the ONLY stealth power I've ever seen used in melee that actually has that effect is Energy Aura's Energy Cloak because it doesn't suppress. And even then, my EA Brute doesn't suddenly lose aggro when he runs it.

I think the most likely scenario is the one Dechs posited above - someone with a grossly powerful taunt component overpowering everyone else. There's really nothing to be done about that since it's completely outside of your control (and not your fault).

I don't recall what the other Tanker's primary was. I was aware some Tanker primaries had longer taunt auras then others. I'm gonna dismiss this is as a level shift issue and move on. Glad to hear this isn't par for the course. I'll proceed as planned.

Thank you for the replies.

Not just longer, but faster tick rates, debuffs, and auto hit. Dark Armor has a damage aura. What we pay for that offense is in taunt duration and requiring a to-hit check. It also makes sense to pulse less often.

Invincibility and Against All Odds in particular are strong because they include debuffs. Chilling Embrace adds several layers of debuff. The threat formula takes these debuffs into account.

That's one of the reasons I run Oppressive Gloom. I'm not sure whether it ticks faster, but it gives me a chance to have an offset tick at the very least. One second: Death Shroud. Next Second: Oppressive Gloom. It also layers a stun into my threat formula as well.

This is another good point I hadn't thought of. If the other tank was level shifted and you were not, he could be as much as three levels higher than you. That would make all of his taunt components roughly 50% stronger than all of yours.

There's a lot more to the threat formula that even our devs don't know. It's apparently that complex and buried.

I got one level shift (along with some build changes) and things went considerably better. Once I have all three level shifts I suspect the whole thing will be a non-issue.

It might be a level shift thing, Des. I'm not sure if Death Conqueror was level shifted on the BAF where I experienced the same thing, but I know I couldn't pull aggro off of him even when he moved away from the AV. He kept taunting, too, but I was up close, whacking Nightstar, and taunting like crazy, too. Didn't shift for about the 45 seconds I was trying before he said he was okay being sequestered (he did have some support, but he did die once being sequestered... but I let him do what he wanted, heh).

I've had zero problems with aggro on either trial. If I want the aggro then it's mine. The power that I noticed made the difference for me was Oppressive Gloom. When I toggle that one off (keeping Cloak of Fear and Death Shroud on) I can lose the aggro but when I have OG and CoF going at the same time, I can hold them until 2nd warning (and, sadly, often long after).

I haven't had an issue holding Nightstar or Seige's attention in the BAF with my dark/dark tank. I've received plenty of sequestered warnings. I have, however, died pretty quickly when trying to taunt Nightstar to the tennis courts. I found that if I run in quickly and back the towers don't get me.
