The original Shard-based components still remain available for making alpha boosts but cannot be used for the new slots (except through the shard to thread conversion recipe).

EDIT: I found it! Your hint here helped, thanks. All I had to do was scroll down and underneath the Shard Recipe was the Thread Component Recipe. In my defense I must say BAF has broken my brain.
