Altaholic has a question.

I admit, I'm an altaholic.
Luckily for me, I just redeemed 7 slots for more characters, yaaa!

Here's my problem though, I don't know what toon to make first.
Lately I have really wanted an Elec melee toon, so I was thinking either elec/wp or elec/sd, or elec/elec. I like to be able to take a beating, and dish it out, so then comes my other problem.
Scrapper or brute? I figure if I go brute, I'd be a little sturdier, damage is comparable. I could also get gloom to help out the single target attack chain, if I so chose. I'm not to sure about the scrapper epics, if any of the powers in them would help single target.

Basically, I wanna be able to wade into a group, and lay waste to them, but also have enough dps to be able to take out bosses or elite bosses. No AV soloing for this toon.

I'm open to suggestions.

Willpower has more passive regen than Regen does. Who thought that was a good idea?

Can we get a fix for Energy Melee instead of more new sets?

As far as elec/shield goes, the general consensus is to choose scrapper. This because of the way the +dmg from Against all Odds functions, and because lightning rod is technically a pet and there's some issue with that pet's damage cap.

For /WP, a brute will likely be better, because regeneration is a percentage of your max HP, and brutes have a higher HP cap. Same with /elec, but because brute's have a higher res cap.

As far as being able to take a beating, I'm pretty sure that any of those secondaries will fit the bill, regardless of archetype, especially when you IO them out, or if you're on a team with any sort of good support. My BS/Shield became amazing the instant he got SO's, but that is in large part due to parry playing to /SD's strengths.

Why not got with elec/shield? It's popular for a reason. Give an already powerful AoE primary more AoE damage. Since you aren't interested in AV soloing, well, you don't need to hit some ST DPS mark. I'm no number cruncher, but the extra damage a scrapper deals may well exceed the brute's single target chain even though the brute has gloom.

I vote for elec/shield. We scrappers are often the soloists and much of the forum discussion centers around what a minx/max'd scrapper can do by his or herself, but CoX is a team game, and an easy one with that. Why wade in and lay waste when you can teleport in and lay waste at the same time? Throw in fireball from the APP and a judgment incarnate, and you could probably make a few blasters jealous.

One word of warning, however: Taking /SD to its full potential is expensive.

Of those choices, I'd say take a hard look at an elec/elec/soul brute.

The low-ish ST of elec is handily fixed by the awesomeness of Gloom, and Dark Obliteration meshes nicely with any +Def you manage to squeeze onto the build.

And man, does Electric have resists.... Toss in Tough/Weave/Combat Jumping/Manuevers and you're off to a good start in life.

I managed to narrow it down to elec/sd or elec/elec. I got stuck there, so decided to make one of each!

No, not really interested in AV soloing on this toon, thats what my claws/sr scrapper is for

Now just need to start working on a build for the elec/elec. I know there are tons of builds for the elec/sd out there, if I remember, fury flechette had a thread about it after the BotZ "changes" were made. There doesn't seem to be to much on elec/elec though. Does anyone know where I could find seem decent info on it?

Don't have access to mids but with shield you'll want to prioritize soft capping your defenses to even con mobs (45% to melee/range/aoe), and then probably recharge to bring your tele-nukes up faster, as long as your end can handle it.

As for /elec, well, I'm not really sure. You'll more likely want to add def, specifically melee or smashing/lethal. Endurance won't be an issue and lightning reflexes will give you an easy 20% recharge.

45% is the soft cap to everything up to +5 mobs. Only +6 and up get to hit buffs. Until then, it's accuracy buffs, which defense over 45% won't help against. It WILL help against enemies with higher-than-normal to hit, or with defense debuffs, though Shield Defense can pick up very good defense debuff resistance (unless they've "fixed" some things in I120 - I haven't checked yet).
