Male Widows and other Qs

I'm thinking about making a Widow, its an AT I've never touched and am interested in it. I was wondering is there any rp reason for males being widows now other than they just are? Just kind of curious about that, then another question I have is about making a fort with a few of the melee attacks. Will I sacrifice too much to add a couple in there?

Thanks for any and all answers.

Lord Recluse decided to be gender inclusive. That was actually the (semi-joking) RP reason given when they were announced.

You could also just assume that there were male widows before, just the well known ones are female... and until recently the males had to wear rather misleading outfits

The RP reason for the gender exclusivity is a bit inconclusive. If you consider the fact that Widows (Both Blood and Night) are intended to be spies and assassins it kinda makes sense that they're all women. In a world where some of the most powerful people are men a beautiful woman is ideal for gleaning information and getting close to a target. It's a tale as old as time, women make great spies.

As for the Fort, you don't have to sacrifice your effectiveness to take some of the melee attacks. I did and my Fort can still mow down spawns wholesale. I do recommend limiting yourself to two or three though. Anymore than that and you'll start to cut into your controls and AoEs.
