Understanding "Battle" Events

I've diving into Architect for the first time since beta testing it back in the day, and I'm having trouble figuring if its possible to do a Battle-type event between enemy groups where they just shadow-fight, rather than actually attacking (and potentially defeating) each other. Is there no way to do staged battles in an Architect mission? If so, what triggers a real fight going active?

Thanks in advance for any responses.

I think you can use the fighting animations for spawns around objectives and bosses and such.
I've had spawns beating up hostages before.

There is not currently a zero-damage "battle" objective. The current battle objective triggers when the player gets close enough for the enemies to spawn. Which does often mean that the battle is over by the time the player gets there.

What agnor is talking about is more the "Pretending to fight" animations some characters take in both missions and outdoors where they perform "attack emotes" on each other but don't do damage.
Edit: So, say, any objective where you can dictate what animations the enemies are doing before they see you would work. Maybe make a boss of group a, or if using custom critters, a character with mastermind powers to get the whole mob effect, be a "rescue" objective and have them "betray" and attack everything nearby, including group b
