In i20, all enemies will drop shards, not just level 50 ones.

Does anyone know if this is true?

Weakness of attitude becomes weakness of character.

Incarnate Shards drop from defeating foes that can drop level 50 Enhancements (level 47+), though a dev has said it should only be level 50+ that drop them (no I can't provide the link).

Myth, busted. ;]

So this means you'll get shards if your true level is 50--even if you're exemplared. However shards will not drop for anyone who hasn't unlocked their Alpha slot, for which you need to be 50 in the first place.

I couldn't disagree with you more.

To play a favorite character while mentoring/teaching new friends and still get rewards is a smart move.

this is very true, and I agree. The problem I have is them setting it 1 way and now changing it.

I kinda equate it to some vet rewards and other goodies that long time vets worked their butts off for, only for newer players to have access to them right away. And i say that being a newer player being a bit envious of a lot of the vet rewards/badges i yet to have. Also being kind of new (33 months) i feel this game caters too much to lower lvls and not enough to higher 1s. We have all this stuff to soup up our characters with and nothing challenging to do..

ya ya i know i20 bla bla.

Its actually been lopsided for a long time, and im sure this has been a complaint long before i started whining about it too.

Don't even get me started on the Immortal badge...

And if there's enough whining from the Weekly Strike Targets that aren't 50+ not dropping shards, there's always a possibility we could get the option earlier.

What they've made their mind up on is the cost and effort people that refuse to run TFs have to pay to get their Incarnate slots fully filled. They set the crafting cost for a Notice of the Well very high, especially the Shard cost. Rather than lower that down or adjust the drop rates, they chose instead to add in slightly more ways to gather shards while soloing. So now the cost is not insane, it's just merely less-insane.

50's hunting shards are still doing exactly the same thing they were doing before the Incarnate system came in, if they're not running Apex or Tin Mage. The "finally have something to do" part hasn't really come yet.

Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.
One extra 'o' makes a big difference.
