Elec/Elec Softcap...

Hi all, I've got an Elec/Elec tank softcapped to S/L, and she's rather sturdy. But after Reichsman and his massive neg nrg damage actually killed her (something GW and a tower buffed LR failed to accomplish - though admittedly, I took Reichs too lightly and wasn't paying attention) I decided to see if I couldnt softcap E/N as well.

Well I got there, and while I had to sacrifice about 25% global recharge to do so, I think this just might work. I already spent a ton of inf on the last respec, so before I spend FAR more (That Glad Armor IO is gonna be noticeable) I thought I'd ask for opinions.

Just some notes: I'd prefer to have my Build up slotted with 2 lvl 50 Rech IOS, but I need the S/L Def more. If one could devise a way I could do so and still have over 45% S/L def, that would be great.

So take a look, questions/comments/insults/etc are always welcome, and thank you for any time you spend working on it

I'd rather have build up than quibble over 0.1% def. It very easy to obtain 44.9% def and 2 rechg build up:

He will honor his words; he will definitely carry out his actions. What he promises he will fulfill. He does not care about his bodily self, putting his life and death aside to come forward for another's troubled besiegement. He does not boast about his ability, or shamelessly extol his own virtues. - Sima Qian.

I agree with New Dawn. Though I went about it slightly differently, and still have 45.1% def...

Jacob's Ladder is under slotted, but ive found I never use it, so set mule it shall be. If anyone has any other suggestions, please send em my way...

I would rather have recharge and HP on my elec armor builds than softcapped E/N defense.

I don't fight Reichsman often enough to make this necessary.. and if I do, I'm 1 purple insp away from the softcap on my tank anyway.

If you think you need something for one particular battle, and getting that something sacrifices your overall performance in most other areas, then maybe you should consider making this your secondary build.

Um, ok, well, I mostly TF with my 50s, and there's this other AV (Ghost Widow) who has some rather unfriendly neg nrg attacks, so that would help there... then there's LR, his pure energy ranged attack, while highly resisted by elec still hurts when it hits. Ten percent of 3k is still a lot, especially when he can fire it every 3-4 seconds.

My point: I exclusively play high lever, hard content and the E/N def is worth far more to me than the 17.5% rech I had to give up to get it. I never solo with my tanks, and while I DO contribute to the damage, its nothing compared to the other people on my team (ok, I out damage the emp). I'm not building it solely for the Reichsman tf, but for ALL tfs, and there are none of them where E/N def doesn't make a huge difference (STF, KTH, Tin Mage, Apex, LGTF...). Sacrificing a bit of recharge to softcap an invuln to S/L has never been considered a bad idea. In fact just the opposite. And they're already capped against S/L damage (if they take tough). Same concept here. Softcapping to the four major damage types means I still need purples for tower buffed LR (though fewer) but I don't need them for those other tfs.

Honestly, what am I sacrificing? 17.5% recharge? 6 seconds on Energize and Lightning Rod? How much more damage is that going to get me, really? as for the HP, I'm certainly not sacrificing durability.

I had my WP (who inarguably gets the most use out of extra HP) at the old tanker HP cap, and when I switched to S/L soft capped def his survivability went through the roof in comparison. It cost me about 150 hp, so worth the cost. So while I agree more HP is never bad, I would much rather have the def to not need it.

But hey, that's what makes the IO system so great, you can have 3 characters with the exact same power selections who play completely differently. As long as everyone is happy with their toon, everyone wins.

I only TF with my 50's and I don't see the need. S/L is so much more common than N and energy attacks are generally less damaging than S/L attacks... That getting extra HP, Recharge, and Regen instead of the E/N softcap yields better performance, IMO. You still have pretty decent neg energy resistance for what you're facing, and 32.5% is enough for my tanker, but YMMV I guess.

Your recharge isn't as high as you think it is(and you could get more than 17.5%, about double). The further you get from perma Hasten, the less benefit Hasten gives you, keep that in mind. Also, Energize really benefits from high recharge, considering the regen buff+heal it gives you(Basically more recharge=more HP/sec). BU+Lightning Rod also really benefits from high recharge.

There's the issue of accuracy too, as with that accuracy you won't nearly be hitting +3's(Apex,TM) at 95%.

I'm sorry if I came off insulting/condescending in my post to yield that long of a response, btw.

Yeah but look at how much more expensive you made the build. I tend to keep things down a tad. If I can afford somit that could give me a huge bonus on a toon or a small bonus on another toon, the toon that can benefit most gets it.

Combat jump is too small a power to recieve an expensive set of slots.

Here's a common scenario to consider:

You have 25% defense to Energy damage, and 3000 HPs. You are attacked for 8000 total energy damage, and defend 2000 while 4000 of it misses. You take 2000 damage, leaving you with 1000 HPs. Your team's Empathy healer now has to heal you for 2000 HPs.

Now, you have 45% defense to energy damage, and 2000 HPs. You are attacked for 8000 damage, and only 400 of it hits you. Now, the Empath only has to heal 400 HPs.

What did that extra 1000 HPs in the first scenario really do for you? You lived both times, but in the second scenario, your Empath isn't struggling to keep you alive. HPs do not always equate to mitigation. Trading some HPs for more mitigation usually results in better survivability, especially when you consider how small the gains in HP really are for each set bonus.

99.9% of the time I agree with that completely New Dawn, I find it fun to find a way to accomplish things in unconventional ways. This time however, I really want to hit the softcap to those four types, at all costs. Also, inf isnt really the issue, and at least ONE of my toons should be able to brag about an expesive build

AS for CJ not being a good enough power, it gives me a btter def boost than Manuevers at least

The def/end of man. is poo cos it expands to team. Team benefits in various amounts. If nothing hits the team then team don't need it. Scrappers shouldn't need a Tanker. Blasters aren't compelled to blap by legal reasons. People can take up better positions than they do. Attack at moments when aggro is consolidated. I don't do man. on my Tanks at all.

Combat jump first def slot adds 0.6 def and second def slot adds 0.6def. I always rather get more bang for buck elsewhere somehow for my slotting. Now with its end cost being 0.07eps, def/ending it with a hami will reduce the end cost by 0.02 eps, now that for me is one heck of an expensive thing to do with a hami.

Personal preference but I like to draw the line somewhere.

My MM build cost me no more than 50million and is barely any different from some of the more expensive builds. Some people just like to slot expensively but not get much further from an inexpensive one.

Except Energy attacks are usually not as damaging as S/L attacks, and that's before you add the 90% energy resistance you have. Recluse is a good example for this, as his most painful attack is by far his KO Blow. Another good example is the entire ITF, where your defenses will fail and you'll have to rely on your Regen/Self Heal/HP/Drains/Damage/etc to survive. Other situations include the Hamidon fight in the LGTF, Battle Maiden fight in the Apex TF, Bobcat+Goliaths fight in the TM TF, and possibly more. And that's why Recharge, Regen, and HP matter more than softcapped E/N defense on an Elec Armor, IMO, especially considering the better offense you get from that extra recharge.

Hamidon and Battle Maiden's orbital strike are the only two attacks there that ignore defenses and resistances. In the other cases, your defense may be less effective, but having more is still better than having less or none. Recluse's most damaging attack may be KO blow, but he seems to use energy attack (Channelgun) just as often, if not more.

I think it is best to have an equal amount of all the defenses you are striving for. If recharge bonuses are very important to you, then 32.5% S/L/E/N defense is going to be the best you should try to get.

Battle Maiden has a higher tohit than others(about 10% more?), so she would still be hitting you often enough if you have 45% S/L def, and being a level 54 AV she can hit pretty hard, plus you also have the swords alongside her that debuff defense and do Lethal damage. Venged Bobcat and the Goliaths in particular hit really hard(I think only buffed up Recluse hits harder, could be wrong though).

BM also debuffs def herself, being Broadsword (I think) so you've got a rather valid point there. Only question I have is when does one ever find themselves in melee with her for more than 1 attack. Unfortunately kiting her is required.

As for Bobcat, yes, she does hit VERY hard... honestly I'm not sure if tower buffed LR DOES hit harder than her. She's mean.

The BM battle I can see HP/recharge being more beneficial than E/N def, and I can see it in the Bobcat fight as well, but don't the goliaths use Energy attacks? So maybe it's not the landslide it would be were it Bobcat all alone.

Either way, there are examples where one is noticeably better than the other for each part. Best answer would to be get both!

I guess that's why I'm still playing the game, there isn't one be-all answer

Goliaths biggest hitters will be their physical attacks, and they do come pretty often. Yes I also agree getting defense for E/N or positionals should be a high priority, I just don't think getting E/N to 45% is that important on Elec compared to HP/Rech/Regen like I stated earlier. 32.5% is very viable, and 20% should work ok(You should have over 20% E/N anyway if you have 45% S/L).

Only 18.75% E/N def... No, I don't know how I managed that either

Should??....

19.52% E/N . Do I win a prize? ^_^

So I've done some more tweaking to the build. I end up with 46% S/L def, and only 38.5% E/N def, but with the Spiritual Core Alpha slot I end up just under 6 seconds off perma hasten. Inf is NOT an issue, so if you see something that would get me to perma hasten, or (preferably) more E/N def, please feel free to let me know.

Any input/ideas would be welcome.
