I've never really put a lot of thought into my enhancements, but now I think this guy should be a powerful as possible. Here's what I have. I would appreciate any recommendations.

Take a look at other Willpower builds on the forums. Maybe those can provide you with some guidance. This build is too far from anything I would make for me to make suggestions on how to improve it.

The easiest way to survive just about anything is to add enough defense that you almost never get hit. For power sets with little or no starting defense, reaching 32.5% then relying on a small purple inspiration is the best way to go.

After you have adequate defense, an attack chain will help you kill things more efficiently. I'm not sure what the top DPS attack chain is for BS. Look for attack chain threads to learn how to figure it out.

You have unslotted, overslotted/overenhanced, and uselessly slotted powers. Do you even play this build? Parry needs acc enhancement (you get no defense if it misses). Mind over body doesn't benefit from rech redux (its a toggle).

I'd start fixing this by reading the guide section. Pay particular attention to guides that involve your powersets and how they recommend slotting things.

First, welcome to CoH! It's a great game, ain't it?

Second, I love this build of yours. It is proof positive of one of the greatest strengths of the game, which is that it is fun for everyone.

As you may have gathered by prior posts, your build is pretty far from 'optimum.' But that doesn't matter a fig, as long as you're having fun.

Now, that said, you state you want to be 'as powerful as possible', and you're in luck. BS/wp has enormous potential for survivability, and pretty decent damage output to boot.

I'm not just going to post up a rebuild, I think you'll have a lot more fun if you tinker together something yourself. (I might be wrong.)

The key thing here is layers of mitigation. You will want to construct and use all four, which BS/wp can give you very easily.

First: Defense. You get this from Parry, your defense powers, and pool powers. Consider combat jumping, weave, and manuevers.

Second: Resists. You get this from your defense powers and pool powers. Take and slot your armors (three Aegis's or four Reactive Armors are good choices). Take Tough.

Third: Healing. You get this from your defense powers and pool powers, as well as slotting. Rise to the Challenge is your strongest healing power by a wide margin, you want it well enhanced for healing and to-hit debuffing. (To-hit debuff to your foes is roughly the same as more +defense for yourself, see #1 above.)

Fourth: Active mitigation. This is, for BS, knockup and knockdowns. Take those attacks and use them frequently on tough/nasty bad guys. To maximize this effect, you will want some recharge, so look at hasten. You'll also need endurance, so take Quick Recovery and be sure to slot it and Stamina as well. Look hard at Physical Perfection. More recharge also translates directly to more damage, which is the ultimate form of active mitigation: An arrested foe can't hurt you.

Hopefully this is helpful, if you have any more questions, ask away!

Thanks mauk2. That is pretty much the perfect answer to me post. Tells me everything I need in a general way with just enough specific examples so that everything makes sense. Much appreciated.

Yes, I do play this build, and I do so quite well.

Based on advise given by mauk2 I have put this together. I noticed that Mids allowed me to take fly and hasten without taking another power in that set first. Has this changed since the last time I had to choose a power or is this a mistake on Mids' part? I only slotted IO's for the sake of simplicity. I will look into replacing them (some/most/all?) with enhancement sets. What do you guys think?

Aw, nuts, your datalink is broken....

Ok, this is a good effort, but unfortunately, you didn't realize a few basic principals:

1) Slot your attacks! Every attack should get at LEAST four slots, and better five or six.

2) Enhancement Diversification: To simplify, more than three enhancers of a given type give you no additional benefit.

Rather than type out a huge list of recommendations, this time I went ahead and tossed together an example build. It's not terribly great, (it loses a couple of set bonuses due to Rule of Five restrictions for example) but it is solid and has the advantage that every single enhancer on it can be gotten for zero influence if you're just willing to work at some tf's and tip missions.

Plus, this build is solid: It Will Perform Well. Not incredibly, but especially on a team with a few buffs, you will not be embarrassed.

Here ya go:

Thanks. I'll look it over. I'm sure I can learn a lot from it.

So, Enhancement Diversification. Here's what's going on.

You slot one even-level damage SO in a power and it increases that power's damage by 33%. You slot a second one and the damage is now increased by 66%. You slot a third, and and now the power's damage is increased by 99%, right?

Nope!

It's just about 95%. The third enhancement didn't has as much of an effect as the other two. SO 1 was 33%, SO 2 was also 33%, but SO 3 was down to about 28%. See the drop-off? Now, that's not so bad, but each SO will provide less enhancement than the ones before it. Check out how the numbers drop:

SO 1 - 33%
SO 2 - 33%
SO 3 - 28%
SO 4 - 5%
SO 5 - 5%
SO 6 - 4%

So what's this mean? Those last 3 slots will get usually be WAY more useful to you in other powers.

's doesn't make things plural.

My above post may be a little misleading - it's not the number of enhancements that cause the effect but rather it's how much that aspect of the power is being enhanced. At early levels I'll put four Accuracy Training Origin Enhancements in my attacks and I'll gain the full benefit from each one.

The flip side to that is that if you're using level 50 IOs, those provide 42% enhancement each, as opposed to SOs' 33%. What that means is that the third IO really get eaten into by Enhancement Diversification. If I'm using level 50 IOs in a power, I'll often only put two in.

Finally some types of enhancement, like Resistance and Defense, are what are called "Schedule B", and enhancements improve those aspects less than other powers. An Accuracy or Damage SO will improve Accuracy or Damage by 33.3% (before ED), but Resistance or Defense SO will only give 25.5%. HOWEVER, ED starts kicking in earlier, too, so if you stick with the idea of "No More than Three SOs Worth of Enhancement", you'll be fine.

's doesn't make things plural.

I see. Given that I've made a few modifications to what mauk2 provided to address the ED and 'rule of 5' issues. Please let me know if there are any glaring problems I may have over looked.

You made a few goofs in your set choices and slotting. I fixed them how I would do them.

First off, I can tell you didn't look at going prices when you put this build together. Those Shield Wall pieces, unless you already have them, will run you close to a billion just by themselves. And they will cost you 50 Hero merits total if you decide to go that route, I would replace them with a LotG Recharge (in Parry) and a LotG Defense/Recharge. Unless you already HAVE those pieces somehow, in which case, go ahead and use them I guess.

Here's what I did, it has better defense, more Max HP, and more regen, which are the 3 most important things for a WP toon to be slotting for.

I notice that you both omitted Resurgence from your builds. I do a lot of soloing with this toon and I feel that the ability to rez myself is key to my play style. So my concern is; is this guy tough enough to not need it? or what could I remove to make room for it?

One of the goals of pretty much any build is that you do not die. This is especially the case for a BS/WP that can become incredibly tough. Additionally resurgence is quite frankly the suckiest of self-rezzes out there. The only thing it does is replace a wakie. Since it does not have any ae control-type effect to give you a second to breath after rezzing (you will in fact already get attacked during the rezz animation even though you can't yet do anything) you can only use it out of reach of enemies or when somebody else holds aggro. Since it has such limited use and you generally do not intend to die, hardly anyone takes it.

This might sound a little snide, but it's how I look at it:

By taking the self rez, you are essentially admitting defeat before the fact. Instead of building and playing your character to NOT die, you are accepting that you will die, and no self-respecting scrapper admits the possibility that they might lose.

The only exceptions to that are Soul Transfer and Rise of the Phoenix. They have useful effects on top of reviving you. I've actually died on purpose with my DA scrapper because my team needed a few seconds to regroup, and my rez was the only AoE mez power I had.

Besides, in an era where you can make an Awaken out of any 3 inspirations, rez powers are basically just a waste of a power pick.

Also, if you build your character to be tough enough, you'll find that your rez is just sitting there in your tray, unused, and it makes more sense to take a power you WILL use in it's place.
