New Cool Power Ideas

I came up with an idea and wanted to see what everyone thought about it. I was thinking of new cool powers that might give the dev, *sarcastically* who don't have enough to do as is, something to work towards. So I was curious if anyone else had any ideas.

My idea is a teleportation power that you can click on the maps of different parts of Paragon City. (ie- if you are in Atlas Park, you can choose a spot on any heroes map and it will open a gate.) This gate will open (similar to the Oroborus Portal) and people can click this portal. Character openning the gate would be completely drained at point of creation (similar to the after effects of "Godmode") , but also anyone moving through the gate would also be debuffed for 8-10 seconds due to using the gate.

So what do you guys think?

While it could be fun and a novel way to get past what's become a joke of traveling, I think that this idea wouldn't work too well. I would expect the Devs to put atleast a 2 hour cool down like Mission Transporter.

Not sure if you play on Guardian or not*, but Heyas and Boogedy Boogedy!!

You also may want to have this thread moved by a Moderator up to Suggestions and Ideas so you may get more people seeing it than just the Guardian crowd.

Edit: *my schedule is so screwed up that I hardly get time to get in game, so I've lost track of who's who. Nothing personal, I'm just in a sleep deprived haze all the time lately.

This is a nice idea, and I had wanted something like this a year ago. But with having so many different ways to get around now (the Ouroboros portal, base teleports, mission teleports, black market teleports, the combined train/plane lines, and ninja run), I’m finding it much easier to get around all the zones without such a power.

From a comic story standpoint though, I think it makes a lot of sense. It makes me think of Cloak from Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger. Even more so, I think about the 2008 film Jumper, where the characters had a similar power.

I agree with Shadow that the devs’ would extremely restrict this power if they did implement it (maybe to the point of making it useless). The power might be thought of as a way of “getting around” a lot of their built-in zone deterrents/toughness. I remember having to run down the middle of the road once in a zone I had no business being in, avoiding all the outside mobs, just to get to costume shop because I really wanted to have a certain pair of costume wings early in my hero’s build. I died three times in the attempt (but it was worth it). With this power, I would have simply jumped past all the danger.

We would have to also consider the power’s impact on hazard zones, PVP, and the Shadow Shard. I feel that I’m beginning to sound like some lobbyist. Next thing you know, I be trying to convince people that buying jetpacks keep Paragon workers employed. Hehe. At any rate, it would most likely be a hard-to-get power, paid-for expansion, or a new veteran power. That way, it would not take away from existing travel based rewards that already exist.

All that aside; the thing that would most likely prevent this power from ever being implemented is really just the programming involved. I think the game engine would need to change how collision detection works to avoid teleporting you inside a building, another character, or a hillside. Granted, the program does this somewhat with the existing teleport power. But with teleport, we supply the destination X, Y, and Z coordinates with the origin being your current location. Basically, we are prevented from selecting a point “inside an object” even before you can activate the power.

With this zone travel power, we would be telling the game to ignore everything between here and there, and pop me out where there isn’t going to be a “collision”. If we work that out, we still introduce the dilemma of what happens if you teleport over a tunnels or underpass (Skyway has a lot of them for example) since we haven’t supplied the Y coordinate (or Z, depending on how you rotate the axis). Does the game teleport you in the tunnel, or any of the open spots above it? What if you click on a building that you can normally enter (like the above mentioned costume shop, or maybe a store)? Should you be teleported inside? What if you click on a spot in the Shadow Shard that doesn’t have ground? Should you be placed in the middle and be allowed to fall?

And there is the matter of having to zoom in and out of the map, in order to pinpoint your actual destination spot. You know what I’m talking about if you have ever had to click on a map object (like a trainer or store) so that it will appear in your compass. Those little suckers like to dance around don’t they?

Like I said before, I wanted this power before. I most likely convinced myself that it would never happen though. But that isn’t to say you shouldn’t suggest it. Heck, I believe that if enough people want something to happen, they can make it happen.

The exception of course is for me to get a Purple to drop...that just doesn't happen. lol.
