I bought the going rouge complete collection off of steam back in december and since I started with going rogue I had to make a Praetorian first since the same would not let me choose hero or villian. So with the double xp weekend I decided to make a hero and see what that is like. I know going rogue is new and city of heroes came out back in 2004 but is playing as a hero not supposed to have any missions? So far as my hero all I have been doing is running around fighting criminals and doing no missions. When I started I noticed my compass at the top mentioed father time in pocket D but nothing on my compass guides me to father time or pocket D. As a Praetorian I was doing missions right away, but I know city of heroes came out back in 2004 so I wasn't sure if doing missions at the begining is a new thing or not. So any way my hero is currently level 8 and has not done any missions. Is that normal or am I missing something? Do I get missions at a later level as a hero? Do I need to go explore further? I know in Praetoria you get your missions from White who is close to Duncan who levels you up but in Galaxy city I don't see anyone near the person who levels me up.

They're all in City Hall. You should have a person on your Contacts list who will give you your first mission.

Your Contact will be dependent on your Origin. Just go into City Hall and talk to that Contact, and off you go.

Good luck, and welcome to CoX!

It seems you started in Galaxy City. So, your initial contact should be in the Freedom HQ behind Back Alley Brawler.

At level 8, you've outleveled that initial contact, but they should still refer you up the line to a contact who will give you missions.

Alternatively, since you're level 8, go to Kings Row. Open your contact list and find the Kings Row Detective. Click on him and follow the waypoint to him. Talking to him will add a new Contact to your Contact Window, the Police Scanner.

Click on the Scanner in the Contact window to pick up a Scanner Mission. Do three Scanner Missions and then you'll be referred back to the Detective who will give you a Safeguard Mission (stop the bank robbery). If you succeed in stopping the robbery, you'll get a Fly Pack. Whether you fail or succeed the Safeguard, the Detective will introduce you to a new contact for missions.

Ah, thanks for the correction, Zombie Man. Posted that right after I got home from work, and completely missed "Galaxy City" in the wall.

Also good information for future reference, Your contacts are always on your Map as a Purple Person in a Bubble. Trainers are a Green Person in a Bubble. You can highlight individual trainers on your Contacts tab. Once you out-level a contact, it becomes inactive.

If you run out of contacts and can't remember who to see for a more-level appropriate contact, you can always contact a police Investigator (there is at least one in each major neighborhood), who will give you a radio. You keep the radio forever on that character as a contact. Do three radio missions to unlock a Bank mission (Safeguard for Heroes/Robbery for Villains). The local investigator will then introduce you to a new contact in your level range and you can start a new story arc.

Once you get to level 25, you can visit Ouroboros and re-visit any old missions you may have missed, but often it is just more fun to start a new character with a new origin and try a completely different story path.

Good Luck!

Actually, when you zone into any zone that contains a detective for the first time they are automatically your waypoint. So just zoning into Kings Row should send you right to him. The Detectives in that zone are Becktrees and Freitag. You will get one or the other of them, it seems to depend on your origin, but I don't remember which origins get which one.

Alternately, you could go to the Hollows and run the story arcs there. They get old after you've done them so many times, but they're pretty fun the first couple times through them. To get there, go to Atlas Park on the train (blue T in a circle on your map), and find the red dot on the right side of the zone, that's the gate to get there. There is no train service to the Hollows.

You didn't get contacts immediately on creating your character because you happened to start playing while the Winter Event was going on. Father Time pops up for everyone as a contact while it is active. If you had opened your contact list (click on Contacts in your navigation bar), you would have found your initial contact there.

For the record, the entrance to Pocket D can be found in Kings Row, Talos Island, Faultline, and Founder's Falls. At level 8, the Kings Row entrance is likely the only one you will survive the trek to. I believe it shows up on the map, and it's not a glitch, it's supposed to be in the back of a truck.
