Howdy folks,

I'm starting a dark/dark and while I have plenty of time under my belt playing scrappers and using dark mellee I know nearly nothing about DA. What do y'all recomend I skip? And are there any particular tricks other then the Theft of essence proc in the kick *** heal?

The more people I meet, the more I'm beginning to root for the zombies.

I'd say, since you're going Dark/Dark, you could probably get good mileage out of taking Cloak of Fear over Oppressive Gloom. It works really well with Touch of Fear and some of the huge End cost can be mitigated by Dark Consumption. I'd also look at squeezing in some defense in to the build to stack with Cloak of Darkness. I love Oppressive Gloom but you could probably get away with skipping both it and Soul Transfer. On the other hand, Fighting Pool is almost required, both to get your S/L Resist up to par and to build on that defense you have running. Endurance does suck, though Cardiac helps with that once you're fifty. Until then, selectively apply your toggles.

At least you have Dark Consumption.

Oh, and you probably know this already, but -KB IOs are generally required as well.

Dark Consumption can be skipped if you like with miracles and Numia a lot easier to skip it. If you do do not slot it way up

Since you have Dark regeneration I would focus Siphon Life on acc, dam and rech and health last it will be used more as a top of power

If you run COF but do not want to use TOF it is not a big deal it is nice for taking out bosses in a fight some what but me I hate attacks that have no damage and the best mitigation is a dead mob. That is me but it can be effective.

I would also work on trying to get your s/l defense to 45% are close to it if you plan to invest IO's in the build

KB Hole was mentioned Dark regen slotted up is a sweet heal I have mines on my spines does 738 HP a target acc/heal IO's go well in that power

One of the most important things I can tell you is "Don't use the heal unless you're well under 50% health." Too many people panic as soon as the health bar stops being that vibrant green and may actually waste the heal. It's even more important for users of Dark Melee, who get a pretty regular heal in the attack chain.

Until your health hits 50%, you can't judge how fast you're losing it. A good Dark Regeneration happens at 25% health. I know I've managed to time it at 10% pretty regularly while I was leveling up, but that was on a tank. There's a little more room for error.

Yes really good advice here

Argh, I rushed through this, but I'd like to expand a bit.

Dark Regeneration heals almost one third of your health bar. With any kind of heal slotting, three enemies hit is going heal more hitpoints than you have. This means that, once you're in a crowd, Dark Regeneration is only limited by how fast it recharges and how much health you have missing when you use it. To that end, accolades and +HP really help you out.

Dark Regen takes 1.17 seconds to animate, and grants your health 0.25 seconds after that. To get the most out of it, you should be activating the power two seconds before you die. Few people are going to be able to pull this off consistently. Hell, I know I can't. The longer you can wait, though, the better off you will be.

To know how long you have before you die, you need to know how fast your health is dropping. This is why you shouldn't even think about using Dark Regen before your health hits 50%. Without watching your health fall, you can't get an idea how long it's going to take before the last hit kills you.

The best part is that you can be a bit more risky as long as Soul Transfer is ready.
