Hey guys,

After checking out the Going Rogue release and basically feeling a bit homesick I took up a subscription to CoH again.

I used to play years ago and quit right about the time Enhancement Diversification set in. I hear thats still a thing, but there seem to be workaround for that global nerf now. Would love to hear about those if any of you have the time to explain!

I used to play on Union with my main PowerSpike, an energy/devices blaster and my lovely warshade, who's name I can't recall I was a member of the supergroup Heroes on Tour.

I'm downloading the client right now and should be playing shortly. Hope to see you on soon!

Welcome back to the game Powerspike.
Well there must be a lot of new things for you to explore, since I joined some time after ED ;P.
But yes, the workaround for ED are now Inventions.

A few advices for you, make a new character (learn the game again), do not start with your old main (if you still have him/her).
If you go through the tutorial hero wise (and read up) you will get plenty of knowledge.

But directly to your questions about workaround for ED. Inventions.
This comes into the Invention Recipes and Invention salvage that drops from enemies, from about lvl 10.
The recipes can be made into enchantments (by using the components of various salvage). If you also get special invention recipes that belong to a set, then we are taking things further.
Various Set's will if you have 2 or more (up to 6) slots in a power, give you extra bonuses. Some of them just for that power, some that effects all powers (global).

You will find in Atlas Park, Steel Canyon and Talos, a WW (WentWorth) also known as Auction house. There you can buy/sell salvage, recipes, enchantments DO's, SO's and IO's (Duel origin, Single Origin, Invention Origins) & Inspirations.

There are so much that you will be able to explore (that I actually envy you now) , at the same time it might be a daunting task to go through all of this information.
So i'd also advice you to check in on a few Global channels:
Union Chat - Talk about anything, ask for help, introduce yourself etc.
Sals Badgehunters - This channel is Unions Badgechannel, for hunts, task force making etc.
Union Taskforce - This channel is used to announce Task force (creation), raids etc.

To join any of these channels simply take a look at your UI. You will notice the word "Chat" or any other Tab (I do not know how much you remember of this).
Type in /chan_join "Union Chat" and click enter.
Then right click "chat" and look for something about channels. Then click that choice. You will get a new window divided into two. Left and Right.
On your Left side are the channels that "chat" -tab has active. See if Union chat is on left or right side. If its on the right side, simply move it over to the left, then click accept or Ok.
This way you have Enabled the chat channel (sometimes global channels vanish, with this you know have see how to enable it again)

Yup, started all over today with a new char since I sold my account years ago. He's still an EN/Dev blaster though (I just love nova ) and now called Power-Spike (note the clever - add). Got the little bugger up to 13 so far.

Thanks for the invention explanation! I'll keep my eyes peeled for all the new content

Welcome back spike! Think you'll find that the game is totally different to the game that you left behind all those years ago, hope you find it for the better though
Lady pretty much covered all the basics so as she said before, if there is any questions about anything in the game [or just general help] then feel free to ask any of us either on here or ingame

Always tell new/returning players this, but dont feel that something might be too much of a "noob" question as nobody here thinks any question is too "noobish". We'll just try and answer to the best of our abilities and if not, point you to the direction of people who do know those situations.

Hope you enjoy your time back and contact me ingame if you want anything [i'll be online most days/time from monday evening afterward for the entire week, busy weekend just gone] on @damz or here on the forums.

But do join those channels! Those channels are a real life saver for quick answers/tfs/raids! As a side note, when you get your character up to at least level 10 [and in primal earth, not Praetoria] then i'll be more than happy to set up a positron taskforce for yourself You'll be very happy with just that basic change to the positron you'll remember!

Thanks for the info and the welcome guys. You're making me feel right at home

So, I just did the invention tut and made some invention enhancements. I'm normally the kind of guy who googles everything but in this case I'd rather just hear it from you guys as I'd hate to get my slotting wrong this early in the game and wait out a respec to get it right. I reinstalled COH planner (mids hero designer) for some info but for some reason the invention slots are all rated 50..

So, the noob questions:
1)I've gathered from the tuts that Invention Enhancements dont dimish by your leveling. I've also read that they can be stacked. Will stacking negate the ED cap in such a way that I can safely six slot for damage with Invention Enhancements?

2)I tried working this out in the hero designer, but ran into the problem mentioned above. Any advice on this?

When placing a recipie just type in the level you want it to be when you choose the enhancement.

Hmm, now that I can view my build at my level I can see there's a baffling amount of SO/IO/Sets I can add in later if I want to slot for damage, however most of the combinations I've tried end up well below pre-ED damage. Like my previous build I'm getting the recharge rates out of hasten and the accuracy out of targeting drone, so I have slots open for damagedealing.

Is there any type of recommended slotting for highest damage?

Find sets with a damage Buff set bonus. I think they bypass ED.

If by stacking you mean how the enhancements used to work [20+/20++ for example] then no they cannot be stacked. However there is a rule for invention set bonuses called the rule of 5. What this means is that in your active build, you cannot have more than 5 of the exact same set build. Anymore will result in the 6th/7th/8th [etc] being useless and the set bonus not doing anything [the enhancement for the power will still be in effect though]. To make it more obvious this is what i mean.

Build A has the following set bonuses.

+3% endurance
+3% endurance
+3% endurance
+3% endurance
+3% endurance
+3% endurance

Now only the first 5 +3% will affect your build since the last one takes it over the rule of 5 and becomes useless. However . . . .

Build B has the following set bonuses.

+3% endurance
+3% endurance
+3% endurance
+3% endurance
+3% endurance
+3% endurance
+2% endurance
+2% endurance
+2% endurance

Now while the first 5 +3% endurances will work and the 6th +3% one will not again just as in build A, the 3 +2% endurances will work also because due to the rule of 5, they are not the same value as the 3% and thus are entered into their own rule of 5 This way you are indeed able to fill in the gaps of any build or make certain aspects stronger.

Awesome, thanks for mentioning that. Will be keeping an eye on my future sets

On a completely different note: I used to bind /powexec commands like aborting powers that were in the queue, but noticed /powexec_* doesn't work anymore. Has it been renamed or scraped all together?

Edit: never mind. Seems to work now, must've misstyped
