Just made an expensive ma/sr..
this will be used for all around (team/solo/tfs/pvp)

this is my main character and my favorite to play, so not to worried how much it costs.

Let me know what you guys think,
-perma hasten
-missing perma shadowmeld by 8.12 seconds
-capped all defense when running shadow meld
-almost capped m/r/aoe while not running

edit: 2 slots left, can't figure out where to put them, also dont mind dropping the travel powers if it will make it better! thanks

Just so we get this straight -- this is a flagship character with a huge investment and you're NOT capping all three positional defenses on Super Reflexes? Deliberately?

To be fair the positional defenses are within 1% of 45 ... I would shoot to close that gap and get to around 47 or so (which he would do with a Nerve Radial boost), but outside silly scrapper tricks this is really a non issue. I would personally be more concerned about 1) end usage/net recovery, 2) sub 90% DDR (which might make those 44% positionals more significant), 3) passive regen and to a slightly lesser degree 4) total max health.

1) I'd be looking for minimum 2.5% net recovery and want it up more around 3.0% net.
2) get the DDR at or above 95%. I'm not sure (and would want to double check it) but believe the Nerve Radial would also push this higher as well. A second slot in the passives would give the DDR and positionals the boost they need .
3) With no Medicine pool the build will need a steady supply of green inspires in any hard fighting (for instance vs a +2/x8 or +3/x8 mob of Rikti) if solo. A passive regen of under 20 is not going to cut it in my experience. Boosting Max Health would also boost passive regen. My own claws/SR is around 28 hp/sec and 1950 or so Health while my Fire/SR brute has values closer to this build. The brute is way way more "squishy" needing to use a lot of inspires while soloing +2/x8 whereas my Claws/SR chews up the same mobs while barely breaking a sweat. The difference between them is as dramatic as soft capped vs upper 30's defenses running generics or SO's.
4) Add a Kismet +6% somewhere. Accuracy vs +4's is hovering around 95% but just barely. The Kismet would give you just a bit more to go over 95%, a buffer vs getting debuffed or help vs any foes with +defense themselves.
5) I haven't played much MA but believe you want Cobra Strike slotted as a damage dealer after the last round of MA buffs. It's now a hard hitting attack which also happens to stun (roughly 290 damage vs 160 damage slotted with AA per Mids)
6) Shadow Meld ... likely as useful as your appendix or Elude, you are a soft capped /SR build. Assuming you are keeping it for Soul Storm drop a def or rech in it and call it a day.
Use the saved slots in the passives and elsewhere to beef up the positionals and DDR.

EDIT - ok - im no pro at this game adn realized that soft capping m/r/aoe is the same as sc everthing - didn't know that, thats why i picked up shadow meld. will be redoing my build and reposting here. feel dumb=[

sailbot - its sitting at 44.1% without running shadow meld. missing that by 8.12 seconds and when thats active, it goes up to 75.3%

this is the help im looking for. thank you. trying to figure out whats wrong with shadow meld? duration is 15 sec and is recharging every 23.12 seconds; this isn't a farming toon, i should be able to have this up every mob.

with normal toggles, im sitting at roughly 15.2% defense to everything and 44.1%m/r/AoE; while with shadowmeld on im sitting at 46.4% s/l/f/c/e/n, and 45.2%psionic, and 75.3% m/r/AoE. - also i put AA in cobra strike, so i can stun enemies solo, and stun in pvp. aside of that, i still have storm kick, crippling axe kick, eagles claw, and dragons tail. + dark blast (which according to mids, does more damage) which is up every 1.7 sec as oppose to cobra strikes 2.7., cast time is lower by .67 as well as the endurance, and its a ranged attack. also have soul storm which will hold them. can stun and hold, have a ranged attack, and 3 melee attacks, and an aoe.

just my opinion, i could be overlooking this and this could be completely awful. but let me know what you think.

-i am worried about my end with rech being up so fast, might not have enough recovery to support it. - will see what i can do - might have to settle with cardiac over spiritual.

also - the pvp stats are pretty decent from what i see. please critique this and let me know if i should be taking a whole different route

Erm... Doc was simply questioning why you would take shadow meld, and this is why:

1. Most attacks have a positional and a typed damage component. The game picks your highest defense and rolls against that to see if you're hit.

2. Soft cap is 45% An even con has a 5% chance to hit you at 45% and a 5% chance to hit you at 75.3% Shadow Meld isn't doing much for you.

You're really better off ditching meld and working on getting from 44.1 m/r/a to 45 IMO.

If you want a high end MA/SR and you are spending all that inf. on purps and such, I really reccommend getting Aid Self for a heal. You will definitely need it going up against the tougher opponents.
Also I took Muscalature Alpha slot and have gotten my dps up to 194. Over on the Rikti Pylon thread there was some discussion that may be the max for MA/SR at this time and you are not going to be close to that with Absolute Amazement in Cobra Strike. I think AA is best left in Boxing if you want to take it and slot Cobra Strike for some damage, it's an awesome power now.

Here is my build, not saying its the greatest but I can solo AV's like Bobcat, Neuron, Chimera, etc without a problem. I hope it helps

I actually think having a perma shadow meld SR toon is pretty cool. Here lately on my ma/sr, ive been using elude some on the apex and tin mage tfs and its helped a lot. I'm soft capped already, and elude only has one lotg+ in it, but it shoots me up to 100% def. 45% is the soft cap, for even con minions I believe. But against a whole lot of 54s more def is probably needed to keep you at the 5% chance of being hit. Having more never hurts. I do'nt use mids so I can't see builds with just the copy paste deal, but I think its pretty original idea. I would assume you might have made some sacrifices in other areas to get shadow meld, so maybe thats why the critisism.

Also, I've been wondering, with the new recharge alpha slot thats available, what the lowest time you can get elude down to nowadays.

45% defense is the soft cap for everything up to level 55 AVs, which don't even exist. You'd have to be fighting 56s before anything more than 45% would do you any good - outside of to hit buffs and defense debuffs, of course. For defense debuffs, it's nice to have an extra maybe 1% to 3% defense on a Super Reflexes, but it's not necessarily a build priority since it's a lot more situational than the first 45%. To hit buffs are rare, but that's where additional defense really comes in handy. Except when they're so high where pretty much no matter what you do won't help much, like Devouring Earth when they drop a Quartz, or eyeballs.

Now yes, a level 54 AV has a much better than 5% chance to hit you. But NO amount of defense will drop them to a 5% chance to hit you. 45% defense drops them as far as it is possible to drop them.

Not that I'd be grinding on these, but Devouring Earth in tip missions have a 64% to hit instead of the standard 50%. So there's a case where Shadow Meld is just what the doctor ordered - until they drop a Quartz, anyway. I wouldn't build for Devouring Earth tip missions, though. Eat some purples or don't take them, I'd say.

Cool Werner thanks for the correction. I figured elude was helpin me live a lil longer against director 11 when the whole rest of the team was dead, but probably just felt like it. I did die standing there with him and all his minions by myself, but it took a while. I just thought elude was the reason.

If having perma(ish) shadow meld only helps against DE and the eyeballs (shard tfs are boring if u ask me) then its not worth it then. Nemesis can be a bit of a pain, but not anything like damn DE.

So Werner, whats the downtime for elude if you had the spiritual alpha slotted. I'm at 172.5% recharge which I think is enough for perma hasten. Seems like its enough to get elude down to only a couple minutes downtime maybe. I only have the one slot in it now tho with lotg + so thats not helpin its recharge any.

Well, let's say you end up with perma Hasten. ED isn't hitting you with only a single recharge IO, so you have 42.4%+33%+172.5%+100% = 347.9% total recharge. 1000/347.9% = 287 seconds. 287-180 = 107 seconds down time.

Now let's say you put two more recharges in Elude. With the spiritual, you have 127.2% + 22% = +149.2% recharge in Elude. After ED cap you have 95%+(15%*(149.2%-100%)) = +102.38%. Another 11% from the alpha, 172.5% global, and 100% base brings you to 385.88% recharge. Elude then recharges in 1000/385.88% = 259 seconds, for 79 seconds of down time.

For fun, with the very rare and only two recharges, 84.8%+15% = 99.8%. 88+(70%*(99.8%-90%))=95%+(15%*(142.2%-100%))=94.86%. 94.86%+30%+172.5%+100%=397.36%. 1000/397.36%=252. 252-180 = 72 seconds of down time.

werner/the heat thank you guys for the input. i end up dropping the soul mastery (although it seemed very interesting fitting 2 more purples into them.) also i did not realizing that all you needed was m/r/AoE which is why I chose soul mastery in the first place.

werner - i've seen you post a lot on the forums and seems like you know your stuff. if you or the heat have time to check out the build i posted above (dropped soul for body) would be awesome. with the new build, end rec is up to 4.07/s and usage is @ 1.4/s while the old build is @ 3.73/s with 1.39/s usage.

m/r/AoE is @ 45.9/47.6/47 to help with the to hit debuffs if occured (had the extra slots)
as it stands with the original build m/r/AoE was sitting at 44.1% (still 2 slots left, can easily bump that up to 45%+)

regen on new is 21hp/s and old is 17/s
with body, i got the global up to +172.5% (perma hasten with spiritual) and DDR is 93.2% - while with soul im sitting at 87.2%

the reason i have AA in cobrastrike is the stun factor. with recharge i can still run cobra strike, and hit them with SK and CAK (solo wise - with a stun as well) - also in PvP can use stun towards my advantage. for a team I can run it hit EC > DT, and repeat for the +crit in EC. and mob up the rest with SK;CAK. If it's better to drop AA in cobra strike, and slot for damage then I will do that. i'm just posting my thoughts.

Looking back at the soul mastery build I'm very interested in trying to get that going for me. Dropping shadowmeld (after having softcap45or above) I can still have dark blast and soul storm.

In dark blast can have apoc in it, and according to mid's does more damage then cobra strike, is a ranged attack, has a lower cast time by .67, is up every 1.7 sec (2.7 CS), 4.9 end (7.6CS) and 10% better accuracy and still has a -tohit. I could be looking at the wrong. But let me know.

With Soul storm I can put unbreakable constraint, and have a hold attack. Would mainly be using soul storm for when solo (such as running tips, solo av's, pvp) - so essentially solo I can hold one, stun the other, and finish them off with SK > DB > SK > CAK. Also seems would be to my advantage in PvP. Also put lockdown change for +2mag in it as well.

I'll look at the build over again tonight, and see what I can come up with. Will get DDR to hopefully to the 90-95% range and drop shadowmeld and drop super speed (I<3SJ) and can pick up AIDSELF/other - which would be my heal. Will also get m/r/AoE to 45%+ (will go for 47) and get my end rec as high as I can.

Most likely will be going Spirtual (+heal,+rech+tohit+jump+stun - all except slow i think) unelss my end will drain to fast with my already fast rech - migt have to look at cardiac)

Sorry if this post is hard to read I threw a bunch of stuff out there. I'm very interested in picking up soul mastery because body mastery isn't "fun." This is my main character and my favorite to play. This will be an expensive build but I'm okay with that. I want him to be extremely fun to play and I think with soul mastery I will achieve that (controller/blaster/scrapper/tank) alright i think i've said everything. thanks for the input guys! really looking forward to hearing what you guys have to say

American dynamo - just checked out your build - very interesting. I like the almost 4/eds with the low 1.29 usage

What alpha are you using? Also the max health/regen is nice as well - although i'm not sure if I want to if 6 slotting most of the def to get that is worth it. Also with AA in boxing do you actually use that? Or is it for the stats? Same with laser beam eyes? Let me know about that!

If you're running spirtual i'm pretty sure you can drop a slot in hasten and get perma from spirtual. (cant wait for mids to have alphas)

I'll ahve to look at adding the decrease interrupt time for aidself to get it under .5sec. Thanks for the info!

Thanks for the reply Werner. 79 second downtime in elude, one day, seems very interesting. Prob still not low enough I guess to depend on. I just can't help thinking theres a way to have it up a lot but I guess with 45% def you don't need it. Half the time I use it is for end recovery bonus.

OP - ur regen and recovery sounds awesome. Mine is as follows for reference:
Regen - .90% or 16.13/sec
recov - 3.05% or 3.33/sec
recharge - also 172.5

I love eagle's claw, I'm sure there are better chains without it but I enjoy it too much. if i found a way to put elude in, it would most likely be for the +end as well. anyway you could post your build theheat? never seen one with electric, the AoE sounds nice for the lack of MA aoe's. dragons tail does have a good recharge and is a decent aoe with armageddon's (+33% for fire dmg) along with dropping it right after eagles claw.

Currently gonna shift some powers around trying to see if I can work with soul mastery, but possibly might pick up a mastery with a ranged and aoe attack rather than the +hold from soul. will post when finished.

I just read on another forum that currently for a scrap, ranged AoE's dont' do as much damage in melee as opposed to ranged. Is this true?

FINALLY just finished working on this build. I ended up going with body mastery, as is the most common for a scrapper, and seemed to be the best choice, although having a hold did sound fun. Be awesome if you guys could take a look at it, and see if anything would be better. American Dynamo, I looked at your build while making this build to compare the two. Let me know what you think - I went ahead and put AA in boxing like yours.

Didn't pick up eagles claw due to the long animation, and I didnt think the +33%crit would be more benfitial with the 2.5 or slow casting time when I can just run in with SK > CS > SK > CAK and throw in some laser eyes once in awhile.

For teaming I can run my attack chain on the bosses and throw in dragons tail as well.

Highlights of the build...
*27.8/s health
*4.12/s end with 1.23/s usage (2.895 net gain!)
*+167.5% rech - running hasten missing perma by 8.27s (with spirt. alpha will be perma)
*+15%damage
*DDR is @ 96%

Also have aid self in there as well for a heal, what I like is I can pretty much go anywhere alpha wise with this toon, run them in any situation I feel like.

-CARDIAC alpha will help with end, although I think my end will be ok on its own, and conserve power is up every minute 40 or so(and can easily drop the kismet+acc and put +rechIO in conserve power.) damage resistance will only be good for tough, which the gain wouldn't be enough. and the range for laser beam eyes.

-MUSCULATURE alpha will help with a little more damage output, the defense debuff wont help, and end mod will help with more end recovery (not sure how much) and make me run faster!

-NERVE alpha will help with better acc (which might be the weak part of my build) defense could make me able to move some more slots around, and possibly make a few powers better, and confuse, taunt, and fly speed wont affect me.

-SPIRTUAL alpha will help me achieve perma hasten (missing by about 8sec) although I don't really need the recharge to begin with, with casting time I can still run SK > CS > SK > CAK without hasten, (but will help conserve power) also will help with +stun duration for boxing and cobra strike, the +healing will be nice as well, and ToHItBuff for focus chi when running, and jump make me jump higha!

I use Musculature to up my damage. My personal opinion and experience is you need some Interrupts on Aid Self with all the DoT that can go on at level 50.

I mule AA in Boxing and I use laser beam eyes for runners and for the defense debuff as a first shot against hard targets as well.

The other cool thing is he is softcapped without Manuevers or Combat Jumping, so cuts down on end usage.

I'm curious if the Cardiac Alpha boost will affect the scaling damage resist of SR. I'm not sure how you'd go about testing that, though.

Doubtful, the passives do not accept damage resistance enhancement. The Incarnate boosts only work on powers accepting the corresponding enhancement type, in this case the passives take only defense enhancements so only Incarnate Boosts effecting defense are likely to have any effect. I mentioned the Nerve tree much earlier in the thread because Nerve Radial and other portions of the tree do effect defense. The Nerve Radial is worth about another 3% defense to all positions on my Claws/SR and pretty much allows me to choose when and if I run Maneuvers.

Alright guys sorry for the long delay but I think I found the right build for my ma/sr.

Not as much dps as yours american, but overall I think it will serve well.

Let me know what yall think, could always be better and open to suggestion, and now that alpha is mid's there should be a much better way of getting the stats.

& end wont be an issue with conserve power having a downtime of only 78 seconds.
