Fire/SS.. PvP?

I've heard things.. crazy things about Fire/SS tankers being amazing in PvP. I thought to myself, "Maybe I can harness this power and dominate RV!". Well I got into mids and soon realized.. I had no idea what I was doing. I have very weak "search-fu" and didn't know if there was a post for this already but.. whatever. So is this true..? Can a fire/SS tanker really be THAT good at PvP? And if so.. how would I go about accomplishing this?

a...youll get laughed at for having a melee toon in pvp.

b../ss is the fotm so good choice

c.. pick the earth mastery

d.. blazing aura is nice cause it disturbs a/s from stalkers..also burn as well....make sure you slot acc in both!

Fire/SS is good because it's very survivable because of the heal, because rage is great, and because the earth epic is broken.

You need mostly the same stuff as in PvE, with a few differences.

Things NOT to take that you would in PvE:
blazing aura - will NOT interrupt AS from any stalker that is even half decent. It ends up just being a big end drain.
consume - AoE powers in general are pretty useless. If you're ok with consume hitting only 1 target, then you could get it I guess.
ROTP - self rezzes are useless, since you can immediately rez anyway once you die
foot stomp - same as consume.

Things to take that you wouldn't in PvE:
Hurl - one of your strongest attacks in PvP, while useless in PvE
stone prizon and fossilize from earth epic - great attacks. fossilize is actually the stongest attack you'll have. Yeah, PvP is a joke like that.
phase shift - pretty much 100% mandatory for all PvP toons

You also definitely need taunt, even more so than in PvE...but mostly for the -range.

I had it on my Spines/Fire scrapper I was dabbling in PvP with, it kind of amused me. Actually killed a brute with it who stayed too close after killing me (I usually leave it on autofire, so it goes off as soon as I drop), his health was low and he decided to gloat instead of immediately jumping away. It was funny as hell, but something like that will be a very rare occurrence

Aside from amusing yourself though, it's not useful in PvP.

i was dueling a brute in rv and 2 stalkers came in and tried to screw me and b.a. took BOTH out of hide and they got no a/s off. the issue is building it with enough acc for one of the 2 or 3 ticks to hit them.

yes its endurance heavy but if you skip b.a. then your crazy

Blazing Aura is garbage in PvP, as is Burn. Blazing Aura will have about 1 chance to check against a stalker before AS fires off, and has to do so against a stalker's considerable AoE defense. Burn requires you stand in one place to use, which just paints a huge bullseye on your back.

Not to mention that BA is an offensive toggle so it'll drop whenever a mez hits you.
