Is this CyberPowerPC good enough ?

I'm looking for a new desktop PC to replace the one I'm using at the moment - it can play CoH, but on the lowest settings.

My new PC would be used for: CoH, hopefully with some or all of Ultra Mode enabled, and for general computing (Open Office, internet, mp3 playing, Freecell , etc.).

I'm also a Linux fan, so I expect to set it up as a dual-boot machine as well.

That said...

Father Xmas's guide to picking computer components is a great guide, especially if you're able to build your own PC, but hardware and me usually don't mix too well (I'm all thumbs, 11 of them...), so...

Comparing what's available at Newegg.ca and TigerDirect.ca (I'm Canadian, hence the .ca suffix...) with FX's wishlists (*), I found this one:

Could y'all be kind enough to tell me if it's a good investment ?

(*) EDIT: At first, I wrote that I compared with FX's "low end" system, but actually, this system has the Intel Core i5-760 from the "high end" list and, from what I've read on Anandtech and others, the GeForce GTX 460 is about the equivalent to the Radeon HD 6870 of the "high end" list as well...

Seems decent enough for a prebuilt. I'm runnin the I7 920 OC to 3.0 with a GTX 460 768, all eye candy at ultra, cept Occlusion is kept off, or very low, over 30 FPS in most areas. Here is a review on that processor with graphs vs others. http://www.anandtech.com/show/2832/16

Looks they've had some power supply issues on some machines but other than that seems ok. The 1156 socket is going to be a little less "future" proof being an older platform.

That system will play the game on the highest settings no problem. Understand what some folks don't get is Dell, HP, Toshiba and all the rest use other peoples components and make a system out of them.

No different from this system or one you build yourself. It's at that point just a matter of quality components. If you can call them and ask:

1. what model motherboard is in the tower?
2. who makes the memory?
3. who makes the hard drive?
4. Who makes the video card?
5. who makes the power supply unit?

Then you can check on newegg to see how they are rated.

It astonishes me that I missed this thread. I'm usually so good finding these.

Offhand it looks good. Decent CPU, 4GB of memory, reasonably powerful video card.

The power supply is deceptively weak, with only 38 amps at 12 volts which doesn't jive with the 480 watt claim. But it's more than enough for the hardware in the case.

Looks to be a low end H55 motherboard from MSI (H55M-P31) which is fine.

The case may only have one rear fan.
