Hey all, Techies
Yeah, having the hitching, stuttering randomly leading to a hard lockup. I installed and ran CCleaner and this seemed to help for maybe one session. I also notice that when I open my download folder, the icons for the progs I've downloaded here and there take a noticeable time to render...something isn't right but I can't figure it out. COMODO says nothing is wrong.

I don't see any particular problem with the hardware and software you posted.

Resolution reads at 1680*1050... you aren't pushing any heavy Ultra-Mode settings... Should be well within range of what a 9800 GT should be able to push no problem.

Did this just start on the last patch to the game? Or did it start on a non-patch period?

Noticed nothing throughout beta for I19...then bam! live launch, it started for no apparent reason.

See anything wrong in hijack?

and many thanks!

okay.

Click on start

Click on run

type in cmd

hit ok

we should be at the DOS box

type in: chkdsk /f /r

hit enter

hit y for yes

exit the DOS box

reboot

computer will come back up and run through a Check Disk. It will take a while on a 250gb drive.

When the check disk completes Windows should automatically restart

Go to the control panel

Go to Administrative Tools

Click on Event Viewer

Click on the section labeled Application

Double click on the entry labeled winlogon

The results of the Check Disk will be here.

If you have any Bad Sectors, your hard-drive is starting to die.

Man, that check disc took a long time. Anyway, I went ahead and did a defrag as well. About to see how it works.

Cal

Posted

No. Defrag made no difference.

Any ideas?

other than normal conflicts and problems with the Nvidia drivers? I really don't know what to tell you.

So, let's start from the side of potential graphics problems then.

Go download the Heaven 2.1 benchmark: http://unigine.com/download/

Run the benchmark under both the OpenGL and the DirectX 9 modes.

If you get graphical errors, or if the OpenGL mode is drastically slower than the DX9 mode, then the problem is going to be your drivers / graphics card.

No, no graphic problems. Awesome graphics, btw.

I tried to save a report but don't see it saved where I told it to...still trying.

I'm going to have to conclude that it's COH itself that is the problem. The hitching and stuttering is getting worse. Lockups just now and then. I'd hate to have to just give it up, but apparently I'm going to have no choice. Not going to play under these conditions.

there still somethings you can do from that point.

Uninstall the entire CoH installation.

Then defrag the hard drive.

Reinstall the CoH installation.

If it's a corrupted CoH file, that "should" fix the problem.

Try turning ambient occlusion completely off. It's currently for some reason hitting performance much harder than it was previous to I19.

Don't count your weasels before they pop dink!

Posted

Turning that off, yeah, that removed 90% of the hitching. I still have a quick freeze at regular intervals...hard to describe. Like a micro lockup lasting very much less than a second...something I've never had before this Issue.

I notice no real difference in the graphics turning this off. My next step is as je_saist suggested.

thanks for all the help, guys
Cal

I can't really add much to this, but I have noticed that my GeForce 9600 GT has stuttering issues in CoH if I have any level of Anisotropic Filtering enabled.

Try disabling Anisotropic Filtering and let us know if that helps you too.
