Am I headed in the right direction? Dark/Dark/Soul
It's a very good start. There are three powers IMHO that are underslotted shadow fall, fearsome stare, and howling twilight. Fortunately! You have hover and fly overslotted with flight speed. Just recently, the flight pool got a boost in base speed. Putting a fly IO in Swift helps both hover and fly some. I would shift at least one slot for resistance to shadow fall; it has a nice resistance to psy attacks which is rare in defenders. I would put another recharge in howling twilight. I would put a tohit debuff in Fearsome Stare (base ToHit -18.75% for 20s)

I can't see your build because I don't use Mids, but I can vouch for ranged defense in a dark defender as a general concept. I've got mine softcapped to just ranged, mostly from full sets of Lockdown, Thunderstrike, and Red Fortune (both Shadow Fall and Maneuvers). Survivability is quite nice with that.

Sadly I've only gotten a few responses to the build so I've decided to re-post with all the data. I tried the build as it's currently shown against Trapdoor and we seem to fight to a stalemate. Trapdoor not hitting and me not doing enough damage. I've decided to go back to the drawing board. As always, any advice is welcome! Thank you Defenders!

Trapdoor not hitting means you're halfway there. Now you just need damage. I'm not sure what the defender version of Dark Blast is like, but on a corruptor, it's not the most damaging set ever made. I've found I had to take Night Fall and Tenebrous Tentacles, and slot both for damage (though I like the creative chance for recharge slow in TT).
Are you able to keep up a constant attack chain with powers slotted for damage? (TT doesn't count for this purpose, since it's slotted for immob.)

Did you consider using some sets of Cloud Senses, since it has both the 6.25% recharge and the 3.75% ranged defense?
I believe this would be my redesigned build for my lvl 50 Dark/Dark/Soul Defender. I only play PvE and was going for ranged positional defense as well as effecient team and solo game play.
Am I headed in the right direction? Are there any holes I'm overlooking?
