Traps/sonic build help please

Hi all, this is my first post so bare with me.

I've started a traps/sonic def and loving it so far, I'm at lvl 30 now and have started to think about a great build for when I hit 50. I have never used either of these sets before so would like a bit of advise on how to build it. I will be both pve and some pvp in RV.
Any power pics to take/avoid would be nice and a good build posted would be great.

My basic rule of thumb for Traps is as follows:

Take:
Caltrops
Acid Mortar
Poison Gas Trap
Force Field Generator
Seeker Drones

Maybe Take:
Web Grenade (if you're pairing it with Assault Rifle this is a lot more important)
Triage Beacon (I like it but I know people find it skippable, if you do Hamidon Raids definitely take it)
Trip Mine (the utility of this power depends on how AoE heavy your secondary is)

Almost Certainly Skip:
Time Bomb

In general with Traps your goal is recharge, recharge and more recharge. The long recharge powers (Acid Mortar, Poison Gas Trap, Seeker Drones and Triage Beacon) should have pretty close to ED capped recharge and if possible build in some global recharge.

Most of the other slotting is pretty obvious (i.e. slot FFG for Defense) but a few specific "gotchas" and tips:
Acid Mortar: The Devastation: Chance to Hold proc is pretty useful here
Poison Gas Trap: Slotting for Hold duration is pretty 'meh', mostly do it if you want set bonuses, on the other hand the Lockdown hold proc is very useful.
Seeker Drones: Procs do not work in this power (as near as I can tell), definitely slot in a bit of accuracy, slotting for to hit debuff is useful, slotting for stun duration is not.

For pool powers it is well worth picking up Leadership. In particular Tactics is useful since both Acid Mortar and Seeker Drones benefit from the to hit bonus.

Power Boost and Power Build Up DO NOT work with Force Field Generator (I see this question a lot for some reason)

Thanks for that,il make a build on mids when I get home and see what you think.
Is it possible to soft cap all defence?
And more a pvp question, on to foe with it phasing the target for a short time will they be able to get away fast enough for acid mortar and poison not to effect them?
Money is not a problem so if this toon is worth it I dont mind putting alot of influ into it.

Yes but you will probably want Weave unless you are willing to make sacrifices in terms of global recharge. It's actually reasonably practical to softcap a Traps Defender with Weave to all 10 defenses although in practice softcapping positional defenses is usually enough.

This is what I have for PvE build.. I'm going to post 2 builds.. The first one is a Traps Sonic Corruptor.. Just transpose over to Defender side.. It is full Positional Defense capped and of course almost Typed Defense capped.. Not intentional, just happens when slotting for Defense..

I picked up Power Sink because its a GREAT way to get back endurance and its very quick recharge.

Conserve Power is for when Power Sink might be down and a few hits got in and wasted my endurance trying to place a Trip Mine or a Time Bomb. ATM you will waste endurance but not place the bombs if you get hit.. So 2 failures to place and you could be below half in endurance. Again it is there for back up.

This build is sort of like walking in slowly and announcing to everyone your there for the fight.. Running a 0/8 or 1/8 mission what I try to do is find 3 groups close together.. Aggro one group as I move over to another.. Lay down Triage Beacon and fire of an attack to aggro the 2nd group. I then will use Siren Song to sleep a bunch. As I have the 2 groups there, I lay down a Time Bomb and then immediately target a 3rd group and have them come in.. I will then fire off Sirens Song again Sleeping some others..

Shortly there after Time Bomb goes off and I start to lay down Trip Mines. I kill off any Stragglers with aoe or single attacks. If I can pull more mobs I will now start dropping Caltrops and Acid Mortar and start clearing out all the mobs in the area.. Pretty much I am pulling them to one spot, which is where my Triage Beacon and Acid Mortar are at... They all come.

I find it great for solo farming.. It's safe.. you have many tools to protect you.. Perfect example.. You pull too many you can see the hits coming through your defense or a bunch start targetting your Force Field Generator. Lay down Caltrops, You will immediately see the number of attacks dwindle down.. Poison Traps another great tool and the Lockdown proc last for as long as the smoke does.. So you will see new mobs coming in not get affected by the poison but being held by the Proc from lockdown.

The 2nd build is off a Traps AR Defender I have.. different build but same effects. AR has more AOE Attacks so I didn't see the use for Time bomb that much..

If you don't want to go crazy just look for powers in sonic that can slot the same IOs as in AR if you don't want time bomb but want to keep the defense cap..

As most of the old farts on here will tell you, post a build first, then ask for help. Most don't like when new people come in with a very low post count, and no effort, and ask for the good stuff. I'm not that hard core, so I'll put this up since some have broken the unwriten law already

In the future please make the attempt first.

It's not real cheap build with prices as they are these days, but it's been working very well for me.

Edit: BTW, web nade and elec fence are golden for keeping AVs at range when used together. Caltrops are over rated for my play style.

Stealth does not work the way you think it does.. It is suppressed during combat so your only going to get 2% defense. So if you add this to your normal defense numbers it is not enough to get you defense cap. Trust me if it was that easy to get defense cap with stealth everyone would be running around with it on.

Further You have the money for those PvP IOs you put in Poison Traps ? I'm guessing you don't because I can placing purple IOs in better places then poison trap.

I would just rework the builds that are posted to make them your own. Between the one high end build and my two plain builds which are all at defense cap, you can find something. Also they also help to serve you to show you regardless of which end you go some powers are just necessary.
