Edit:
Ketch did a fantastic job of optimizing my original build even further, he heh heh. Scroll down for his version. It gets ~200% global recharge without sacrificing much; his posts offer an explanation.

Edit #2:
And it gets better.. Oedipus Tex took a pass on it and created a unique flavor with different emphases. Check it out. I think it's pretty cool, as well.

Cheers and Happy Holidays All

Hi All,
for kicks, I decided to purple out the first character I ever made, a Grav/Empathy controller. Grav is normally underpowered for trollers, but I am actually having a blast with this configuration, so thought I'd share it.

Highlights:
+Indomitable Will is basically perma with the Spiritual alpha slot, as long as you remember to hit hasten fast enough.
+Wormhole recharges every twenty seconds or so and has a 30 second stun duration, heh.
+The Singularity's holds and immobs are OP'd and damage is great for him/her/it too.
+Can keep four or five people Forted at a time.
+Near perma Adrenaline Boosts.
+Zero endurance problems with fast-recharging auras.
+40% Smashing/Lethal Resistances
+Proc'd Confusion Aura for reduced aggro problems
+Phase shift for emergencies (bind it, and you should be ok, given good reflexes)

I took this guy into a cave mission on a +2 8 man team going against Malta (Crimson arc), and he didn't die once.. Anyway, feel free to use this as a cheat sheet or template for your own builds if you're one of the other rare grav/emps out there and have cash to burn.

Cheers,
IM

I'd suggest a few changes to your build. With a few tweaks you can reach 196.3% recharge which will secure you perma-Hasten, reduce the down time on IW by 5 seconds or so, reduce the down time on auras as well as allow for some endurance reduction. I did swap a few powers and some slotting to achieve this, but I'll explain why. The data chunk will follow at the end of the post.

  • Dropped Invisibility for Grant Invisibility. You have nearly comprehensive stealth with Stealth and the IO in sprint. Invisibility cripples you with the Only Affect Self status. Any situation where you might use it will be covered by the IO/Stealth combo. With GI you can at least aid teammates on stealthable missions or top of their defense a bit.
  • Dropped Absorb Pain for Gravity Distortion Field. I find Absorb Pain fairly situational and I dislike the healing resistance it confers on the caster. GDF will help fill down time between Wormholes and can pick up a 7.5% recharge bonus with Basilisk's Gaze.
  • Dropped World of Confusion for Psychic Tornado. WoC has a terrible radius and a terrible duration. The Contagious Confusion proc is the only thing that saves it from complete uselessness. Working primarily from range you won't see it offering much mitigation. In fact, I'd place my buck on Psychic Tornado offering more mitigation via its knockup and -recharge than you'd see from WoC. I shifted the slots from WoC to your auras and AB to regain the 10% recharge bonus.

The more I look at this, the more I like it. Very clever indeed. The saga of the hilariously OP'd grav/emp troller continues!

Do you have a grav/emp Ketch?

I haven't played grav/emp, but I have played both gravity and empathy to 50 in different combos, grav/storm and mind/emp. Mind/emp would probably be more similar since it works primarily from range as well. With grav/storm the range I played at varied by mobs, moving in to leverage Hurricane or stack stuns on some foes.

FYI you can replace the Cytos in Fortitude with Membranes, that will free up a couple slots.

I made some further suggested modifications to the build using Ketch's build as a base.

The biggest one, if you're open to it, is dropping the Psi pool for Primal. Here's the logic: Gravity leans very hard on its few control powers, so you want them to last. Meanwhile you have a pet you can't heal, but you can shield. It turns out that Power Boosted Fortitude will give the pet a TON of defense. Add Maneuvers to the mix, the half bonus from Grant Invisibility, and a +Defense pet IO and suddenly Singularity is at about +42 defense; not capped but very, very good. Anything Wormhole's purple proc triggers on will have floored odds to hit the pet even if its a boss or immune to stuns. Also, with Power Boost teammates end up getting +31 defense from Fort and +39.44 ToHit, which is waaaay more than you can get from just slotting.

Now, it also happens that Primal contains Conserve Power. So if we take that, we can alternate back and forth between Recovery Aura and Conserve Power. Endurance recovery is now officially taken care of as long as we play at level 41 or higher. So we drop the slots from Health and Stamina and move them.

In terms of single target attacks, I would drop Propel. It looks neat but on high recharge builds deals awful damage because of its animation time. I didn't take Power Blast, favoring Temp Invul over it, but you could. Crush and Lift spammed back to back do very very fast damage however; not quite as much as Power Blast, but enough that you won't be a total push over. Energy Torrent hits fewer enemies than Psi Tornado and Recharges slightly slower but animates very, very quickly. It also costs a LOT less endurance (dually mitigated by Conserve Power).

I changed slotting on the pet to net more global recharge. The pet only has one power that really benefits from mezz slotting. I think the global recharge and the defense IO (if you do decide to go Primal) are more important.

I reslotted Crush as an attack. Slotting for Immob does increase your recharge slightly but this is one of your most damaging powers, and you still get good recharge from it slotted differently.

Note the swap of the Unbreakable Constraint set from Gravity Distortion to GD Field. You want damage in your single target holds so you can trap things without losing too much DPS.

You also haven't told us which Alpha slot you're chasing. I would advise you to go Spiritual for even more Recharge, Healing and Stun duration.

[EDIT: Changed Fortitude slotting in accordance with Auroxis' suggestion, which does increase Fortitude nicely.]

I'm starting to be very entertained. Kudos to you for coming up with this, Oedipus Tex. I didn't think it was possible to optimize this further, but it gives me a whole other set of considerations. Hmm. I'll play Ketch's version, which I respec'd into today before I saw your post, and then give yours a shot in the next couple days too. Thanks!

Re Psionic Mastery vs Primal...

You can't heal your Singularity, but you can boost its regeneration by 2000% using Regen Aura and AB when you're solo. So giving it power-boosted fortitude isn't a huge priority - it'll generally outlive its recharge on base Fortitude.

I went Grav/Emp/Psi on my main, and I love Psionic Tornado. Its a great place for the Force Feedback proc, although I guess the same could be said of Energy Torrent in Primal.

I agree with Tex - slot Crush and Gravity Distortion as attacks.
I gave GD four pieces of Basilisk, a Dam/Mez Hami-O and a level 50 Dam IO for 70-odd % damage, good hold stats and the 7.5% global recharge. I put 5 of the Grav Anchors into Crushing Field to get that bonus.

Mainly, I'm glad to see you've got the Ragnorak and Grav Anchor procs in Crushing Field. I just love that power when its enhanced like that - the knockup and gravity lookalike hold just look so right.
