Identity crisis, IO investment, regrets

Hi,

I'm french and i play on Vigilance (sigh at servers/community ).

Looking for some thoughts on my identity crisis. I'm on the verge of stripping my claws/elec of all his IO's cause i invested all my money on him and i regret that. But doing so is fastidious as it imply doing quiet a few respec trials or having kept vet respec and then some (eventually buying respec on NC shop).

Some of those costly IOs (couples LotG, Numina's/steadfast/Miracle...etc) come from an already striped down toon, my once highest char, a lvl44 SS/SD brute that i hate, cause i found out that i couldn't stand the Rage crash. Add to that Hasten crash, and, well *puke* I respecced him to grab the Energy mastery Pool and that solved some of my end probs, but even then i told myself that SD was better on a scrapper anyway (dam cap) and i already focused my hope on something else.

That's when Elec Armor comes into play. I thought that Elec, with heavy IO investment too, could be the all around soloing beast (including AV) i needed. As anyone should know layered defense is king, so i thought that a set with no glaring hole in resists, very good debuffs protection, end drain,20% recharge passive and a self heal, could benefit the most from +def IO set and +rechg. Add to that sapping potency and i told myself "you're golden".

At this point you should take a look at my build :

Now. As you can see its not cheap build even if there's no purples (hum, well, I think it's not cheap.) The Force feedback in Shockwave is pretty obvious but you may wonder about the one in focus. Well you don't want to spam shockwave against AVs solo fight and need all the recharge you can get to have Energize up as soon as possible so...

Now here's a breakdown of my thoughts :

- Painfully realized that sapping is only good in situations where no decent meleers should need it, cause we already mitigate more than any other AT's baring Tankers. That's why i don't really know where to put Lightning field as you may have noticed (got enough AoE damage with Spin/Shockwave at that recharge level - thanks Ffeedback)

- I wanted to solo anything (well, except +4/x8). Uh, uh, uh :
Positron told me to get the **** out with my poor dps
Aurora Borealis and Countess Crey went trough my 42% psi res + 37sec Energize like nobody's business

- I saw a good overall primary to complement Energize in Claws even if i knew about Lethal type lagging a bit behind, but in the end the set bores me. Well, apart from spamming Shockwave all around (wich condemn me to play solo by the way ). That, you can't do nothing about i know, but it adds to my identity crisis.

- Rememberd far too late that 30% S/L def is anecdotical at most with zero DDR in Elec, even though it cost so much money.

- I know the taking Soul would have made me more sturdy with Darkest Night, but i wanted to do something different and don't wanted to deal with the redraw caused by dark obliteration. That could be the key though...

So... i've put him on the shelf. Even if he's not bad, its not the secret weapon i initially thought.

Now, i recently been playing a MA/Regen scrapper (lvl 27 ATM) that i'm having lot more fun than with the toon above aaaand was wondering if i could expect far better than elec in terms of soloing capabilities with the kind of IO investment seen in the build above.

I also started the old classic DM/SR scrapper (lvl 26) wich feel utterly promising but less fun than MA/Regen.

Additionnally, i plan to build a SM/Fire brute when i19 goes live for the "all out offense firework style/ don't care to die / Rise of the phoenix" department, with reduced hopes of doing anything crazy. Just pure fun.

So what do you think ? I want to have fun AND solo quiet anything Can claws/elec do it with a better build of yours ? Should i ditch him and focus
on one of the three possibilities above ? And can i REALLY expect about those three, especially the MA/Regen which the one with wich i'm having the more fun but hearing lot of negatives about Regen ?

Thanks alot for the reading and upcoming suggestions if have any !

Franck.

I find my DB/Elec (which should be very much like a Claws/Elec) plenty survivable for anything I want to do with her. I haven't tried soloing AVs or anything like that yet, but that wasn't what I originally wanted. What I wanted was a Scrapper that plays a bit differently from my other ones, so I made one that uses endurance drain and Shadow Meld for survivability.

Here's the build if you want to tweak your Claws/Elec, the only thing I'd probably change as a Brute would be Shadow Meld to Darkest Night.

positron is prolly one of the tougher AVs to solo because he has an inherent 20% res to smash/lethal/energy dmg and has that extremely annoying tier 9, and then to add on to the fact that hes chock full of debuffs

if you want to try a slightly easier AV, then i would try synapse since most of his attacks are based around energy dmg which elec armor is strongest against, he also has no real special resists or tier 9s

My Mids' is currently broken until I get around to fixing it, so I can't look at any of these builds. But rules of thumb like "layer your defenses" are just rules of thumb. Just because a set has a bunch of layers doesn't mean it's the best set. In this case, it's definitely NOT the most survivable set.

I wouldn't expect much survivability out of Martial Arts/Regen either without some heavy IO investment, though perhaps I'm underselling it.

Dark Melee/Super Reflexes can be pretty solid on a budget. Super Reflexes' main trick (soft-capped positionals) is easy to pull off, and Dark Melee provides the heal that the set needs to be great. Of what you mentioned, and at your budget, I think that's going to be your most survivable option, the one that will let you solo the most.

Weird... I'm pulling up a Brute build...
well anyways
Claws/Elec shouldn't be too bad. Probably not gonna be the most survivable out there but it should be tons of fun. Going for s/l defense softcap with lots of recharge on mine with SM as an emergency button. Just waiting for i19 to start putting IOs on him
