Couple of questions

Ok, I have recently begun construction of my Supergroup base. I have a couple minor questions though. I have searched the forums and been unable to find answers, so at the risk of sounding stupid I'll ask.

1: I noticed the base entrance room is a 2 x 2 room.. is it possable to make this bigger somehow? Like a 2 x 3 or 3 x 3 room?

2: When I try and change the style of my rooms I notice there is only a handful of style options such as sewer, tech, factory... yet in some screenshots I see people with bases that look like caves and office buildings.. How do I get these other style options?

3: During the style selection I see a catagory for doorways, but when I click on it, it is empty.. Do I need to unlock these somehow?

4: Is there some way to remove the floor trim panels on the walls so they match my doorways?

5: Can I change the graphic or effect of my entrance portal?

Please forgive me if any of these are stupid questions.. I have not come across anything that answers them yet, and no one I've spoken to has been able to tell me.

Nope. It's a fixed size - in fact all of the rooms are set, although there are some variations of the same type of room (like 3 different sized workshops).

Those have been made using the options you are seeing, combined into the different looks. Some things to look at are the vids of stacking.

A doorway is a 1-square link that has to go between the other rooms. The only reason to "buy" it is if you want more than one link open between rooms. It is not an actual door to close between the rooms.

Place a small relatively inconspicuous wall item near the floor of the section. My favorites are the single cable or the small half-moon vents (if the vents fit in the decor scheme).

No - it's always going to be the blue cylinder, although you can build around it to some extent.

No question is stupid. Base building is something that most of us have learned by trial & error. There are guides out there. Nothing has really changed for bases since Issue 13, so even some of the older ones out there are still valid. Also, join the Global Channel "BaseBuildersInc." (there's a period at the end of the name that is very important). Just call out on that global and you should be able to find some help, including coming into your base to walk you through something.

Thank you very much for your speedy reply.

The question about the doorways.. I was refering to the style section where you can choose walls, floors, etc.. at the far end of the catagory selections is one tab "doorways" . however there is nothing in that tab. I supose that was just an option they were toying with and just never implimented.

I've never seen that tab in that menu before. I don't know whether I never tried scrolling over that far, but I somewhat remember that the final choice there was Ceiling Trim.

I know that we have been asking for ages to be able to edit the doorways, so I am going to hope that it is something they are adding <crosses fingers>

p.s. I had to go into one of my bases to see what you were talking about - the answers above are from memory.

Also, as far as new "styles" of room, a lot of folks use room items to line the walls for a custom effect. Most common is covering a wall with wall cabinets, but it's possible to use arcane blocks, desks, shelves, whatever. One of the threads here has screenshots of a crystal cave made by just putting a whole ton of the crystals from I think the Room Details list all over the place.

To form the cyrstal room I just stacked a ton of crystals of various sizes all around, alternating the directions they faced to make it appear "natural." Once I made the walls I covered the floor with small crystals and then stacked small crystals as high as they would go to make a "ceiling." Outside the crystals, the room is really just a big empty archane room.

As for the OP:

"Stacker" has some pretty good youtube videos about how to stack. It's far from being a self-explanatory process so all of us had to learn from someone (except whoever invented it perhaps).

I'd just play around the base editor for awhile until you felt comfortable with the basics, and then research stacking if that's something you choose to do.

For me, the best way is to be shown how to do this sort of stuff. Once you get the basics down, then I would ask someone to show you how to do the more complicated stuff. Believe it or not, you can do all the stuff you have seen on the forums with just a little help and some practice. Base editors in my experience tend to be happy that someone appreciate the craft and are generally very willing to be helpful to teach someone willing to learn. I could show you even.
