You want:
/pet_select_name pet_name
You should also theoretically be able to make a bind or macro with:
pet_select_name pet_name$$powexecname healing power"
Which should target your pet and immediately heal them although it might occasionally misfire (I've had occasional issues with macros intended to drop my Kheld's form toggle and switch trays not fully working if I use it while doing another animation).
Just curious, do you have the Pet window enabled and open?
For example.
note: the "Pets" link on the Team window's header bar. If you don't see it, then you'll need to enable it in Menu-->Options. My Pets window is showing my Gun Drone (*/Devices) and my Blue Wisp (vet buff pet).
Teams are the number one killer of soloists.

Menu->Options->General
Scroll down to the Chat section and enable Individual Name Colors.
Note that it will color the character names when they generate outputs in all chat windows, not just teammates. The color is based on a hash generated from the character name.
