While I wish to send thanks to every veteran, I especially want to remember those who we usually don't think about on this day - the men and women who allowed for this country's creation and who held it together when forces sought to tear it apart. The purest expressions of the battle for liberty, to me, occurred where liberty had not yet been won.

Veteran's Day reminds me of when my father was in Somalia for Operation Restore Hope. This was back before internet usage was widespread so we didn't get to talk to him much. Given what happened in Mogadishu we were very concerned about his safety. When he returned home he was leaning on a cane and my mom freaked out and thought he'd been injured. We was just tired though (the cane was a souvenir). He came back, but not everyone did.
For everyone who came back, everyone who didn't, and everyone who still serves, we are forever in your debt.
