4 Going Rogue Day Jobs

Last night I was thinking about the Fame Bar. I thought it would be interesting to get some kind of mechanism that helped players mitigate it, and get a little extra speed when it comes to Reinforcing their alignment from time to time.

My first solution would be an INF sink, plain and simple. An NPC for each alignment (Fixer, PR Agent, Inside Man, Undercover Agent) that let you pay INF to buy off a certain amount of Fame Every X days (number to be determined, but I was thinking 5 bubbles/week). This would actually be a neat idea, as the game needs more INF sinks, but it seemed kind of boring to me so I kept thinking.

Then I decided, why have an NPC when the character could do it for themselves through the Day Job system? Peter Parker helped Spider Mans fame through his pictures, Clark Kent wrote about Superman, etc. I know in those cases they made them more famous, but at least in the case of Spider Man, the pictures helped prevent people from thinking of him as a criminal. Batman had Jim Gordon so that could be the case for an NPC, or just a connection he calls when he needs a favor.

So anyway, from a technical standpoint, I thought the Day Job could work like this:

We already have special salvage that eliminates the need for certain things in given minigames (Security Bypass, Invention/Tailor Coupons, etc). In this case, the Day Job could earn someone of a given alignment the equivalent of Get Out of Jail Free cards. Then when you complete an Alignment mission the game checks to see if you have one before it increments the Fame Bar, and you get a popup asking you if you want to use it.

The other idea I thought of would be an Autopower with Charges, which is admittedly less clunky, but hasn't been implemented elsewhere I can think of, so would take new Tech. They could even make the special salvage invisible, and automatic, so that people wouldn't have to suspend disbelief about the "free pass" But personally I prefer having a choice in the matter.

Each Alignment would have it's own Day Job, It's own coupon, and it's own locations. It wouldn't help people just interested in changing sides really, it's meant for people committed to reinforcing their alignment.

Here are some thoughts about Job Names and Locations-

Hero- Top Man (Woman)
Maj. Eaton: We have top men working on it now.
Indiana: Who?
Maj. Eaton: Top... men.
Just like in the movies, you're the top of your field and have all kinds of hush hush connections. This helps you get your work done with a minimum of notice.
Location- Fort Trident

Villain- Fixer (I think this badge name is in use but it's fantastic for this job anyway)

They're the one you go to when the heat is on, they can make everything alright and give you some breathing room to get back to serious villainy.

Location- The Crucible

Vigilante- Undercover Agent

When you're on the edge of the law and can't rely on anyone but yourself, sometimes you have to make things happen.

Location- ??? I dunno can't think of one, would like to see a new spot or good existing spots thought of in this thread.

Rogue- Inside Man

Just like cops infiltrate criminal gangs, Bad Guys infiltrate honest companies to better be able to steal or manipulate them. You've put yourself in a good place to pull some strings with this job.

Location- ???

So what do people think?

Fixer is a villain heal badge, Cleaner might work. I think thats another common term for the guys that make thing disappear.

Could always go with near one of the games 3 secret agents, Crimson, Indigo and Viridian.

Otherwise, I like it. I doubt it has any chance of being implimented, but I like it.

I could see myself using a day job that gave me, say, +1 Villain Fame every 2 days. And the Crucible could use a day job power. Really, we could use more day jobs in general. We haven't gotten any new ones since they were released, and I've already got them all on my main.

No we don't. We really, really don't.
Unless the time it takes to earn them decreases. ¬_¬
