In-game Search Function Request, take 2
Nobody?
I hereby throw my hat into this ring.
The color code isn't that complex (although, as mentioned, there's a few issues with alignment), but what bothers me is the fact that hey, we can now search for team leaders and pester them... so long as they're in a city zone. WHHHAAAA?
Yup. If a team's leader is inside a mission, or inside their SG/VG base, the violet (team leader of a team with fewer than 8) is overridden by yellow (can't invite because they're in a mission). If this was fixed? A lot of my issues would go away. SO, TOO, with this idea of having a "search for team" option... plug in your level range, and voila! Prefer a more specific result? Filter by team type (looking to do TFs, looking to do events, add a looking for tips type). The level range can be based on the leader (since, in fact, the team's level /is/ based on the leader), and the default team alignment can be coded accordingly. (Showing an icon works, or if it's easier or simply preferred, just replace that with a three-letter code: HRO, VLN, ROG, VIG are all pretty self-explanatory, ne? You could even toss LOY and RES on the stack, for sake of Praetorian simplicity!)

I don't see the point for the yellow code to begin with - the search window says where everyone is to begin with.
I requested something to be done about the serch feature, and at the time I had just recently returned from a hiatus so I wasn't familiar with the colors.
I am now familiar with the meanings of the colors, and it is still thoroughly broken and often useless in my experiences.
Allow me to explain.
When players are in co-op zones, such as the Rikti War Zone and Pocket D their colors -always- show up as an ally would in blue. Let me further explain. I am putting together a team in Grandville. I see a blaster in Pocket D with the white circle "Looking for anything" next to his name. I go about messaging him asking him if he'd like to join, because hey his name is light blue and he's showing up in my search so he must be a rogue/villain right? Wrong. He was a hero and unable to join the team. Couple that with a high population of people on Virtue hanging out in Pocket D to sit alone and hope for RP or people in the rikti war zone farming vanguard merits or what have you, and you have a HUGE margin for error with this system.
What I propose is something that I think, and hope, should be very very simple. Ditch the colors, seriously. This is not a national security matter, and if you keep the colors at least add some sort of legend.
Anyway, here's the proposal. Next to each person in the search window, add a row with a tiny little picture to it. What is this picture? It's their alignment of course. Everyone, by now, should know what the icons of each looks like (And hey, what's the harm in adding a "Team Search" section to the help FAQ in-game?) so it should be very easy to understand, and shouldn't hold the same flaw of the co-op zones breaking the search feature.
BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!
I have a second proposal. Add a feature to the team search window that is for teams already formed. Let them select from the same exact drop down list of what they are looking for, and let them add a note for what their party is doing. Team searching could be done by levels via the level drop-down box already in place, AND it could be done by searching activities like you can when you list yourself LFG.
What this does is let people know your team is out there so they can actively find YOU as well as you finding them, rather than spamming broadcast hopelessly when there's clearly nobody else willing in your zone, but there may be people in 7 other zones that would jump at the chance to join your team. In place of the Archetype section there's a 2-8 number of how large the team currently was at the time of your search.
Don't want to be listed as a team? Select the little red circle and voila, you are simply not listed.
The colors can even stay for all I care for simplicity purposes.
