Rad/Dark How to?
Trying to raise back my old Dark/Rad, I havent came up with a satisfying build. Going for cap def makes me give up too many, and I m not sure Rad/ really needs it. Should I just forget Life Drain or not? Should I frankenslot everything for just power efficiency like I use to slot up my trollers (I kina feel like a troller sometimes0 ?
Anyone has a build we could discuss? |
Radiation Infection alone will floor most enemies' to-hit, but there's always those times when something runs out of range of it and starts shooting at you. It'll be rare, thanks to Tenebrous Tentacles, but it will still happen from time to time (TT isn't going to immobilize everything in a spawn 100% of the time, and bosses will resist it)
Being Rad/Dark, you should NEVER need to enter melee range for any reason, so hovering with moderate ranged defense will make you practically immortal when combined with your debuffs.
I'm not all that great with Rad/Dark, but I'll see if I can find some time to throw together a build for you when I get home.

Just like Claws said you dont need capped because of the debuffs your throwing around. If your cool with going villian for a bit to unlock patron pools I would grab Black Scorp. This gives you a typed Defense armor (easy to cap Smash/lethel) and another AoE immoblize for 100% lockdown abillity. Heres the build I'd go with.

I'm currently working on a build for my PvE Rad/Dark defender atm as well. I'll only be playing it at level 50. I'll be frank though this isn't a build for everyone because it's very expensive.
I decided to go with a team/support build rather than a solo build. I wanted alot of recharge so AM and Hasten overlaps. I also go through alot of end with everything running so I went with power mastery for CP. It has PBU as well so I can soft cap everyone's defense when I hit PBU and Vengeance. I slotted alot of chance for -recharge slows for some added support.
When I19 hits I am going to probably take assault, superspeed, and either hover or recall friend in I19. All of which only need one slot.

Rad/Dark should give you very, very good effects with SO's or Frankenslotting. I'd maybe go for a few +Rech bonuses- I don't personally need permahasten, but I like to get kinda close- but you can do a very cheap, very effective build.

Or more precisely which is the OP looking for advice on?
The title seems correct, even if OP initially switched primary secondary in the actual post judging by Life Drain being mentioned.
Other than that, a properly slotted Radiation infection together with the inherent -Tohit in your blasts should take care of defences pretty much, perhaps with some bonuses filling in. A hoverblasting ranged/AoE-defence playstyle/build will work out nicely - the loss of not being able to utilize choking cloud for hard control is compensated by the readily available immobilization with Tenebrous Tentacles.
In my opinion it boils down to playstyle, though. I mostly solo, and with inspirations rolling in at /x8 defence is rarely a problem while set bonuses like +rech/+hp always helps. In teams, you can say the same - while your debuffs and damage easily pulls aggro off of some meatshields, it's easy to keep inspirations (or accolades) saved up for those specific instances.
