Implement a "reload" function in the demo player
If it makes the job of the peeps who make the awesome vids I've seen easier?

Demos in general are incredibly sloppily handled in this game. Their biggest boasting feature is "they exist" and that's about it. At the very least, I'd like to see an interface for playing them back like an actual video and the ability to control at least the orientation of the camera.

Not sure how simple skipping back and forth would be in demoplay, what with the way demos are recorded. Would be nice, though.
I'm aware that demoplay is likely so low on the list of priorities that it might as well be on {or under} the opposing hemisphere, but...
Would it be possible to implement the ability to reload the demofile without restarting the client? Having to do so whenever the editor wants to make even the slightest change to the script severely hinders any attempts at making machinima beyond simple recordings.
As for the benefits - the attention from well-made CoH videos is often fairly big, and giving an already creative playerbase additional tools to express that creativity can only increase the exposure to the game itself. There's no guarantee, of course, but it might bear consideration that one of those editors might create something viral, bringing in more interested players. It has all the cost-prospect of a lottery, of course, but if the resource investment is low enough to justify it, why not?
