Constant crashing

I have been having crashing issues over the last 3 weeks. At first, the crashes weren't very frequant, and were only happening every couple of days. Then the crashes began happening more and more. I would crash a couple of times a play session, which, for me can be in the realm of daily play for a few hours each time.

The last week and a half...I almost can't play at all. I crash within five - ten minutes everytime I log on. This is consistantly happening. This morning I crashed within 30 seconds if entering a mission on a 3 man team. I come back and within five minutes more, the entire thing locks up, sound loops for a few moments; then the BsoD pops up and my entire system restarts itself. This has actually happened twice. I am also not running maxed out settings, and have actually lowered them even more thinking that might be the problem. Although I wouldn't know why, because I never crashed in GR beta, bu am suddenly crashing now since its release.

I have tried to run a program called Gamebooster from IObit, at my husband's reccomendation. We have defragged, run countless scans of this and that - and plenty more that he could give you the details of, but I am unable to since I am not a PC guru. He says that he's basically done everything he can think of. except reinstall windows.

Do you all have any clue what might be causing this? Its frustrating because I can't play at all.

I know you all usually need logs of some type to look at, and if you tell me what they are, I will post them ASAP.

Thanks.

I use to use IOBIT for the longest time, however, I don't like how it operates in the background and it is a pest on some systems. You can use a simple program such as CCleaner to clean up old space and scan for and fix registry errors. They also have a fairly good defrag program. Another thing to check would be your temperatures, since GR release I've had to OC my GPU fan to keep it under 75degrees Celsius -it use to run at around 58. Set your systems page file to a nice 2GB (2048MB) minimum, I'm not sure this will have any effect on your system but I do it out of habit. If you have not already, try using Microsoft Fixit to scan for common problems and it will fix them automatically in most cases, link below. Outside of that I'd say uninstall/reinstall drivers and recent software from when the crashing began, and make sure you're not using an OC utility with known issues for CoX such as EVGA's Precision. If all else fails then backup files and try a full Windows Reinstall. If the problem still persists then it's most likely that there is a problem or failure in your hardware configuration. As dor logs, most people prefer to use HijackThis by Trend Micro which provides an in depth look at your system, the link for this is also below. If you run it and post the logs, someone will be able to help you out, that is if I don't beat them to the *Punch*, har I made a hero joke.

We ran a cleaning software and then did a graphics driver update and patched windows with all the latest updates.

I have no had a single crash since. Here's hoping it stays that way.

The crashing has returned. I tried posting my dxdiag log, but the forums aren't allowing me to post it. It says there are too many symbols being used, and its too long. How much of this do I need to post?

The dxdiag contains a lot of information that has absolutely no bearing on how well the game plays. CoHHelper runs dxdiag and pulls out all the information that could be useful plus it retrieves the in game settings.

Hijackthis shows all running programs so we can see if there is anything that might be conflicting with the game.

This forum is where players with a lot of computer knowledge and experience with the game help other players. Well, those with a lot of knowledge and those who are just know it alls like me, but I at least try. If you want us to attempt to diagnose the problem then post the logs. If you prefer to only deal with company reps then you can go that route. I was just letting you know what the regulars in this forum would want to see.

My wife has been having a very similar issue, and I'm not 100% sure I have it solved, but I think it's because her video card was overheating.

I have been having similar issues with my brothe's PC. Mandu and several others have been trying to help but I have gotten nowhere. I've even upgraded to windows 7, but now instead of the game crashing I randomly get BSOD's of all sorts also. It sounds similar to my problem, If I have any posative results I will let you know. Good Luck!

Hi StarKitten, I have just fixed the problem I had with my brother's PC. Pretty much the same thing that was happening to you. Went through a lot of steps, here is the link if you'd like to check it out. http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=236270
