Best way to do this?

I'm working on a story that involves a bit of time-travel and has the player meeting himself coming and going. One scene has the player going in to assist a future version of himself and, once successful, shortly finds himself being assisted by his past self.

I'm wanting to use an Ambush to spawn an allied Doppleganger (a trick I once used to call in reinforcements in a previous story, but before Dopplegangers) at a certain point, but that isn't available right now (i.e., "Doppleganger" is not an Ambush option). How can I simulate this?

Do you mean something like this?

AFAIK you can only add dopplegangers as "Ally", "Boss", "Captive" and "Escort". The best you can do is add a "Boss" doppleganger with the same trigger you used for the ambush and set the boss to spawn alone and be friendly to the player. You can also set it up to say stuff when it spawns. However, this also means you can only set it to spawn at a certain area instead of having it 'come to the player'.

edit: Sadly you can't tie multiple ambush/boss/ally/captive events to the same trigger; however, you could make them trigger in sequence like so:
- player attacks boss / destructible item
- at 1/4 health, you trigger the ally doppleganger to spawn
- when boss / destructible item is destroyed, you spawn the enemy boss / other objective the doppleganger is supposed to help with in the same area (like 'Front' or 'Middle'), also indicating the player they need to 'go to the entrance of the sewers' or something
- player gets to the location; if the map has the spawnpoints close enough, it can "sort of" work

So yeah, clunky, but I can't think of a better way atm.

That almost makes me wish I stuck with WoW for more than two months.

Almost.

But yeah, something like that. I especially like the condescending talk between temporal versions. I might incorporate a bit of that.

make custom group with 1 mob dressed like your character. Ambush with that custom group.

The problem is you might get multiples of that mob ambushing when scaled up

I've tried that before, it works well. It won't fit this particular project though, unless I was the only one who played it; I want a Doppleganger of the player, not a duplicate of the author.


That reminds me: How does the Doppleganger enemy work on teams? Is it just a Doppleganger of the mission holder, or does each member of the team get one?

Yes, you can, except for ambushes. If you have an ambush tied to a trigger you can't tie anything else to it, but you can have as many other objectives as the map will allow spawn off a single trigger.
