First off, we are going to need a LOT more data to help determine what the problem is. I would suggest heading up to the Technical Issues and Bugs forum, a few up from the Player Questions forum, and posting in there. Those guys know more about the technical side of it than most people who post here.
However, be ready to get them a lot more information about what kind of computer you are using, the specs, and what else you have going on at the time.

This sounds like a fairly serious issue. And without additional technical information about your computer, would be impossible to diagnose within a reasonable time frame.
Step 1, head on down to the Technical Issues & Bugs forum.
Step 2, read through the Common Solution & Posting Guide sticky.
Step 3, If none of the common solutions solve your problem, read the "How to post" section paying extra attention to the parts about CoH Helper and HijackThis. These two programs will generate a LOT of text that you need to paste into your new post in the tech boards. This should give our tech savvy players sufficient information to diagnose your problem and provide a solution.
