Invul ponderings
ok...so I rolled a SS/Invul (I just recently ran a claws/wp to 50)...
I remember 'back in the day' when I was able to walk around with capped resists, so I know that invul isn't nearly that good since the GDR...but.... |
That all changed once brutes got access to the /energy APP. Superior Conditioning and Physical Perfection are wonderful endurance tools, and open up brutes to many combo's I'd never look at before.
I'm at level 28 (just got invinciblity), I have every secondary power up to that point and it just feels....squishy. I'm running tough with the build so I'm at 60% resist to smashing/lethal.... Exotics just tear me a new one End drain just wears me down |
Naughty broot.
Takes those slots, put them in your attacks, and slot in much MUCH more end reduction, accuracy, and recharge. The end crash from high-speed rage is utterly unsupportable until the high 40's. Not to mention your attacks are underslotted for end reduction and WAY overslotted for damage.
Convert half those damage enhancers to end, rounding up, until you get physial perfection.
I'm playing blue side (in striga right now) and I thought it would be an easier time than playing red side. |
Blue is not easier than red. I'm not sure why people thought that all these years.
Red is more ANNOYING, due mostly to the 'run around like I'm stupid' tactics of Longbow.
Here's my current build, all enhancements are common lvl 30. The first glaring problem I see is that I've skimped on end redux, so I'll probably spend the lvl 29 slots in 1 in invince and 1 in tough (both end redux). So, I'm getting the feeling that invul is a lot like SR, painful to level but godly with the right set bonuses. |
Fix your end. No more than one damage enhancer per attack, convert the rest to end. Let fury do it's job until you get mature.
Things will get way better with footstomp.
Things will get WAY better with conditioning and perfection.
Once you get all your sets in, you will stride the earth like a young god, casting fear before you.
You will not do the damage of a ss/fire, or a fire/sd, but you will be far FAR tougher than either of those.
Your power choices are excellent, but the slotting.... no offense... its extremely unbalanced. Slotting isn't about building your defenses, or maxing your damage, or mitigating endurance burn, or any other factor. Its about balancing all of those with your innate characteristics (Fury/lowish base damage/higher HP/etc).
I've revised the slotting on your build; it is not intended to be optimal - too much depends on playing the character and getting a feel for specifics (i.e. should it be 1rech/1end or 2end in this attack?). That said, it does rebalance the worst problems.
With regards to SS specifically - you want PermaRage (3 rech) ASAP. It will save you end in the long run - fewer missed attacks and higher damage = less end wasted. Don't worry about slotting tohit until at least 40s. One acc in attacks is plenty with Rage running. Two damage is easily sufficent with Fury helping (1dam/1rech may more or less efficient; I can't recall the specifics of my SS/DA testing back in the pre-IO days). The specific balance of damage/end/rech for your attacks will depend on how things work out in practice with your playstyle.
I also highly recommend you look at cheap IO sets NOT for set bonuses, but for enhancement percentages; mix and match Bruising Blow, Smashing Haymaker and Focused Smite for better %enhancement in fewer slots than you can with Generics.

Kinetic Crash: Recharge/Endurance is another good, cheap enhancement that can go in your SS attacks.
Regarding squishiness, I don't see a lot that you can improve on. Purple and green inspirations are your best friends, but you probably know that already. (Red inspirations are relatively less valuable since you'll already be running over 200% +damage from Fury, Rage, and enhancements, so feel free to combine them to defensive ones.) When possible, try to stick to enemy groups that do primarily S/L damage.
What difficulty do you run at, and are you talking solo or on teams?
I'm currently levelling a EM/Inv brute. hitting 28 was like flicking a switch going from squishy to awesome. It's amazing that one power can make so much difference but invincibility certainly does.
It also doesn't help the amount of exotic damage floating around in the teens/early 20s, spectral demons and spectral demon lords just ate me up.
