Search window colour chart

Maybe its just me, but I just can't seem to ever recall the new colour-code scheme for the team search window. I'm sure eventually I'll get used to it, but right now if I want to use it, I more or less NEED a legend open on my other monitor. I can't possibly be alone in this regard, and new players will almost certainly have no idea what they mean... So I have a couple possible suggestions on improving this improvement:

  • Make a button that opens a small dialogue box with the colours and their meaning.
  • Add a new drop-down with search filters based on the colours, and add quick descriptive names highlighted in the corresponding colour.
Space is likely an issue on the top bar of the search window, but the solution is simple (standard code rant); of all the drop-downs, the "LF...▼" is the only one that's wider after you click on it, so make the Origin, Map and Level drop-downs behave like this, and reduce their base width. then you have plenty of room beside them.

Button or drop-down, this new item in the search window should probably be called "status"

Allowing us to filter by team colour status would kill two birds with one stone. It would let us take out people on teams or not looking for a team, for example, as well as providing a handy reference to what each colour actually means. Sign me up for this.

I'm signing this so hard, I broke my pen.

And not to derail too much, but as has been suggested elsewhere: also replace 'origin' and the origin icons with 'faction' and faction icons. So You know who can go where, and join who.

But yes, a legend/sort function on the colors would be very handy. re-optimizing the search window in a multiplayer game is always an excellent plan.

/signed. I have always been curious as to why there never was a legend in game anyway. I think it was in the manual originally, but I don't think they even ship a paper manual anymore. (at least there wasn't one in the GvE box).

Oh and yes, origins are a kinda pointless, but since I'm sure someone uses it, they should add a faction filter and not necessarily replace the origin filter.

Honestly, I was considering saying this in my suggestion (I can count the times I've cared about someone's origin on zero hands), then I thought, "No, with my luck that would draw in the few crazy people who do use the origin filter, and the bickering would detract from the overall suggestion."

Well, at least they gave us a nice map... granted the paragon city map was from CoH release in 2004, and is all kinds of out of date (They haven't yet updated the maps in the tram stations in game either, last I checked)

I cannot endorse this suggestion enough.

But rather than replace the Origin with Faction - I'd rather see Faction added in to the list. I doubt it's difficult.

To me it's a matter of real estate. Is there ANYONE who ever searched for a team/team member based on whether they were magic/mutant/tech/etc?

...Speaking of real estate, I'm wondering if the 'looking for' drop-down could be modified to something like 'status:'

Hit the drop down, and it filters by: looking for anything, not looking, on a team, leading a team-full, looking for TF, etc.

This way it's not just for forming a team, it's also handy for joining/searching in general.

I have seen people run "all mutant ITFs" and stuff so yes. Thematically it does make sense and it seems silly to take stuff out if it's not causing a problem.
