just click on your missions, highlight the lvl 2 mission, then click "abandon mission".

I know you can abandon it and pick it up again at the correct level but it seems like im so far behind now for a level 9. I'm assuming there's no way to jump ahead other than going through the mission chain.
If you took the mission at Lv2 and are Lv9, then you've outleveled the contact - they don't have any more missions in your level range. However, they should refer you to the next contact.

So if you leave with unfinished biz, that biz gets erased from your docket. The Baby New Year and the Valentine Day missions (from Scratch and Ganymede work that way. Once their respective events end, their missions get removed from your list.

^Is there a way? I was level 2 and was on the first chain and I decided to join a mission group and reached level 9 when everything ended. Can I skip these missions or do I have to complete the chain?
