General MM questions...

I haven't been playing long, and my main is only a level 24 ninja/dark mm.

I hear alot of people talking about stuff, and have no idea what it all means....like for instance....

1. What are the softcaps? Does it tell you in game when you are at softcap? Are they different for defense, offense, etc.?

2. I have a macro'd button that tells my ninjas to attack a target....but alot of posts say to use a "goto" button instead. Why? Wouldn't it better to decide which mob the ninjas attack first, instead of putting them next to the enemy and letting the ninja's pick?

3. As this is my main, I don't have alot of cash....so should I be buying 20, 25, 30 origin enhancements, or should I wait until a certain level?

4. Any other advice would be welcome!

1) Softcaps are when you have high enough defence so that even level NPC's are at their minimum chance to hit you (Even level is at 50% and minimum is 5% so at 45% defence you're at the softcap (It's called the softcap because it is subject to defence debuffs and to hit buffs)

2) It spreads the aggro, instead of the entire spawn attacking the first to reach them it is spread amongst pets, also pets should do enough damage to take things out 1v1 easily.

3) I'm not sure about this, I tend to make IO's and have never used DO/SO enhancements

2. Since Ninjas are a melee set, using goto for your tier 1 and 2 pets to get next to a spawn and then telling them all to attack 1 target has the following advantages:

-> All of your melee ninjas use their melee attacks, instead of weaker ranged attacks. Your tier 2 pets get to slice and dice from hidden = crits.
-> focus fire on dangerous targets first then you can move on to the next target or let them decide. It is almost always a better idea to focus fire targets quickly than let them spread around. The exception to this rule is if you want them all to have aggro and you get none. In such cases I assign tier 1 to attack a target and tier 2 to attack another. This is of course AFTER the nasty targets are down.

Letting the dangerous targets have time to do things is a quick way to defeat.

3. Frankenslot and go all IO at level 27 is my suggestion. With just 4 slots in a pet, you can get 80%acc/80%dmg. 4 different Acc/Dam pet IOs are cheap to pick up these days. IOs are pretty cheap as well, making them - even cheaper.

Actually, it is called a "soft" cap because you can get your defense higher, but it won't do any good. A "hard" cap would be a cap that you simply cannot exceed. For example, resistance has a hard cap of 75% for masterminds (higher for some other TAs). You literally cannot get more resistance.

Defense doesn't really have a hard cap (well, it does but it is ridiculously high, like 200%). However, if you get your defense to 45% most enemies are at the minimum chance to hit so a higher defense doesn't do anything. Therefore it is a soft cap.

It is sometimes helpful to get your defense above 45% as a buffer for when your defense is debuffed.
