Opinions on */Inv scrappers?

For ages I've wanted to find a satisfying scrapper build and when I saw Kinetic Melee I immediately had thought of a wizard/battlemage kinda concept using magic spells and wards to fight with hand-to-hand and defend himself.

/Invul seemed the best secondary fit to represent glowing magical wards surrounding his body but I'm worried my attachment to /Invul (my first L50 being an Inv/EM Tank) is blinding fatal flaws in its Scrapper incarnation.

I accept I'm not going to be tanker-tough but what survivability can I expect as I level up and hit 50?

Are /Invul scrappers still tough enough to hold their own or do the reduced caps make them sad in comparison to Invul tanks and other scrapper secondaries?

Anyone got any recent /Invul scrapper builds that show what it takes to hit the caps or experiences fighting with /Invul scrappers they can share that might help illustrate their potential?

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Invuln Scrappers are just as tough as any, and all Scrappers can hold their own. As with any Scrapper, it isn't a tank, and it's going to take a LOT more compromise if you want, say, to soft cap while facing only a single enemy. But your strength is in numbers anyway, so I think most people target a higher number of enemies, even with the top end survivability builds. There's the obvious psionic hole, but no fatal flaws. It's a good Scrapper set.

It's not a bad set by any means. You get incredible resistance against the most common types of damage as well as decent defense against anything that isn't psi. Then there's Dull Pain for when you get hurt. Basically you have great mitigation and decent damage recovery, all in all it's a nicely rounded set.

I love my invul scrapper, softcapped for smashing/lethal, extremely tough, nearly tank-tough against many enemies.

Ever since it got improved many Issues ago, I have been enjoying Invulnerability quite a bit! Those small tweaks were just enough to make the set interesting for me, and incredible when IO'd out. Remember, it isn't just about the Resistance numbers on Invulnerability, but the Defense numbers as well.

I have outlived Tanks and entire teams before. Though this may be the case of my primary contributing heavily as well. Being able to top off your health every four seconds is great.

Long, Long ago when the game started my scrappers were all SR and it was very difficult to get my scrappers off the ground until I tried a Katana-Invulnerability. Invuln works noticeably better at the earlier levels than Reflexes, but make sure you get Dull-pain and slot it up as soon as possible. The hardest part (for me) is the long road to getting invincibility.
Once Invincibility is added to your powers, that is when the set seems to turn the corner and become very solid. But perhaps using Katana as my primary "skewed" my perception of the secondary.

Agreed. It basically comes down to getting Invincibility and slotting up your Defense numbers. Once you've got said power, it's smoooooth sailing from there. Before then, powers such as Siphon Life, Parry, and Divine Avalanche help make the ride less bumpy.

Thanks for the feedback all. Very helpful indeed.

I had been toying with the idea of DM/Invul for the extra life recovery but visually KM grabs me a lot more.

Most importantly I didn't want to spend days/weeks working on my new scrapper only to find I was too weak at high levels.

Looks like I don't need to worry about that at all, cool. Well at least not once I've adjusted from 'tanker' to 'scrapper' mindset!

Oh, weak you will not be on an Invulnerability. I assure you this. In fact, it might even live up to its name for you.

I'm sure KM will be great with Invuln, too. After all, your attacks do -DMG which should stack very nicely on top of your resistances and defense. Doesn't the AoE do knockdown on top of being the most powerful -DMG power in KM, too?
