Crash immediately after zoning

Posted

Yesterday was the first time I'd tried to log in to the live servers since May mumblemumblemumble. I can get to the login screen just fine, the server selection works, and I can select and log in to a character.

But as soon as the zone loading screen completes, my game freezes, and then crashes with a Cryptic Studios 'send us your error report' window. The location, server, and character don't seem to matter.

Last night I tried verifying files (no help) and updating drivers (also no help), so today I come to you guys.

CoH Helper Report
To my eyes, the only things that look at all wrong are the video and sound drivers (~1yr and ~3yrs old), but as I said, I updated those last night (from nVidia's and Dell's websites, respectively)

Hijack This Report
I don't see anything here which could be causing problems, but I'm not a guru in this area, which is why I'm here.

Other things I think I should mention in case it helps:

  • Occasionally, any program on my computer will freeze for a few seconds before returning to normal (in fact, Hijack This did it while generating the report). This has been an ongoing problem since before installing Windows 7. I've occasionally tried looking for a solution, but since the problem is so general, it's hard to find a solution. I've no idea whether it's related to my CoH issues, especially since my other programs don't crash, they just sit "Not Responding" for a bit.
  • My disk defragmenter runs on a regular basis (every Wednesday, IIRC). I just ran it now, and I've got 6% fragmentation.
  • This problem didn't occur while I was on the GR beta server, but I also haven't been able to play for weeks (unstable connection).

Update: This problem does no occur when running in safe mode. I just tried creating a brand new character and put them in the Praetoria tutorial on Infinity. No crash in safe mode. Quit program, restart normally, log in to the same character: crash.

(Edit: CoH safe mode, not Windows safe mode)

Okay, I tried actually playing the game in safe mode... and I can't do it. I'm too used to my graphics settings and playing in windowed mode (quick switch to Paragonwiki or the forums while zoning, &c.).

Any input would be appreciated.

Please post the HiJackThis log and a new CoH Helper log directly into a forum post.

The link you provided strips out the formatting and makes it very difficult to read.

If needed, make two posts, one for CoH Helper and one for HiJackThis.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Black Pebble is my new hero.

HijackThis doesn't have formatting. If you don't like the line numbers, you can also use the "Raw" link at the top. I can understand wanting the formatting for the CoH helper, though, so here you go:

Update: I tried sucking it up and playing in safe mode, since I was really getting the itch. Same problem occurred after about 3 hours of normal play. (Well, same crash. I can't be sure it's the exact same problem without testing, but a 3-hour wait to test a crash is a bit much.)

Today I tried logging in to the character I made previously while in safe mode. I did not crash immediately, so I opened up my options to load my default window and chat settings. I loaded my window settings fine, but then it crashed before I could load my chat settings.

Yes, it's still a crash before I could really do anything, but that's longer in-game than I've had before outside of safe mode. The only change has been moving to a new network.
