Poor man's S/L def soft capped Elec/elec/cold build, looking for feedback

Ok, so I am getting a bit more serious about builds having seen difference in performance in one character that I respecced and slotted according to IO set bonuses.

Here is my projected build for an Elec/Elec/cold build with softcapped S/L def.

So, my main questions are these:

Is softcapping worth it on this guy? I know my recharge is painfully low, which could be addressed with some purple sets, but this will not be a main and i don't have billions of inf at my disposal. The recovery and regen look decent to me, but I could be wrong.

No nuke and no travel. Not a big deal for me, but what do others think? I could drop fitness and get them, which if possible, would be preferred. I gather that an /elec can get by without fitness, is that a better choice for this build?

I had some odd slots, mostly for not having an idea where to put them where they would do more good.

The single target blasts are slotted to help with some set bonuses and the heal proc. That was the best I could come up with on my projected budget. Charged brawl is underslotted, but I couldn't figure out where to pull from to get it more slots.

That's about it.

Can't look at the build atm, but I would like to ask what is your range at ?

Here is my simple thoughts on to be Defense capped or not.

First off many of the key powers for Electric are PBAOE, so it's pretty much a must you have to be in their faces for your powers to work.

Second you being alive outweighs your recharge. Here is why..

When you start adding up the amount of deaths a non capped player has over the frame of a few missions or even one big one. It can start to add up. Even if you where level 50 with full tray of inspirations..

How many times will you be able to make a wake inspiration and possibly a break Free inspiration before you just start running out of Inspirations. So regardless you being alive and helping out the team is much more worth while then someone who nukes and then takes a dirt nap and waits around for someone to ress him or pass him a wake.

End result that defense cap guy is just gonna be chugging along.

Personally I'm a Defense cap born again. I have taken out bosses solo because I was defense capped. I was able to hang with the tank buffing because I was defense capped.

I was able to ress the WHOLE TEAM during a Ritki Strike force because I was defense capped. I had no ress, but I was AOE killing mobs with my Sonic Traps and making Wakes and Break Frees after I assembled the team. That was one glorious day for that toon. I received many complements for doing that.

Once your defense capped it almost feels like your cheating because the game is that much easier. Your basically able to do now that only tanks and some scrappers were able to do pre Inventions days.

Once I get home I will look at the build. But if you have the basics of Kick, Tough, Weave, Combat Jump, Hurdle, Health, Stamina and possibly Maneuvers and/or Tactics and of course Hoarfrost from cold mastery. Then you should be fine with picking out the rest of the choices.

I can tell you when I upped my Ranged defense from 12% to 32% on my DP Kin, I could tell the difference. No longer did I feel the sting of death from Ritki ranged attacks. Well a lot less at least

Was able to look at the build.

I think your over slotted in some powers, for example Tesla cage, short circuit, power sink.

Snow storm seems better then Flash freeze. No mobs will ever be held in Flash freeze longer then a few seconds unless your solo running +1+8 missions and pulled 2 groups of mobs. Even then one misplaced AOE and you ruined Flash Freeze. You might as well just slow everyone down to a halt as your AOEing them to death.

I think you could get Smash lethal and Either Ranged or Melee Capped or very close at least. Of course with getting either one of them capped you get energy and negative or fire and cold capped as well.

Further I think you should stick to maxing out AOE damage and have one one solid Ranged attack. Everything you do is AOE or PBAOE. Slot everything to max out your defenses. I would build for defenses and then slot the rest.

As a side note its not such a poor mans build with all those high end IOs, LOTG, Numi. Kinetic Combat..

Heh, I guess not poor man's, maybe "average guy's" build. No purples or PvP sets, a couple of choice uniques and rare sets, should be within my price range if I stay vigilant on the market and run TFs for merits.

Do you have any recommendations on what to change to get melee or ranged capped too? I'm not sure where I can make sacrifices that won't hurt my damage output.

I moved a couple of things around per your suggestions. How much end mod is needed in short circuit and power sink to drain bosses? Do I have too much?
