Idea about PVP

Just wondering why don't use a merit system in PVP collect merits and buy recipes or Salvage from a NPC

Like:
1 merit for 1 Kill.
5 merits for killing the Most Wanted.
2 merits when Most Wanted is killing people.( some kills needed before you gain that title)

You have to find devs that cared about pvp before something like this could take flight.

PvP needs to be fixed before such high rewards are added. Dangling shinies trying to get pve'ers to come play with us didn't work with pvp IOs and it probably wouldn't work with this.

Example. 1 merit per kill. LGTFs and ITFs can be run in 25-30 minutes with a decent team. In order to pull in people to pvp the rewards would have to be equal to or greater then what people can achieve during pve. If it's not people who are attempting to maximize rewards for their time spent won't do it. The problem with this is, to be competitive in pvp and successful, you have to invest a lot of time prior to the reward coming in. You have to learn to play your toon, and at minimum get accolades, hp IOs and kb IOs (if you're on a toon without protection). Even then, you'd have to have a proper toon (the amount of pvp viable builds is small) and you'll have to maintain a very high kill rate (1 per minute or so) to keep up with what people can do in pve, without having to go through the trouble of working on the toon first.

Something like this would just invite farming.

If you cause your teammates to die repeatedly in the last mission of an STF or ITF, it is as rewarding as PVP and you don't have to go to Sirens.

As a side note. The pvp community appreciates most suggestions to improve the system, or to make it more attractive to invite new players. However, even the best, well thought-out, fact providing, community agreed upon suggestions and feedback fall on deaf ears. If someone posts and seems rather rude, pay them no heed as their frustration and angst are not directed at you.

Not always true. I actually believe barrier is a giant blubbering phallus. Not just pent up Freudian frustration there, but actual honest to goodness theological doctrine.

Various iterations of this idea have been presented before including such things as making rep mean something from a reward stand point. At the end of the day they are all ideas that have good intentions and pvp does indeed require some solid form of rewarding players.

PvP IO's unfortunately fail because their drop rate is so low. If they introduced secondary tiers of PvP IO's that dropped much more frequently but weren't as powerful (ie didn't carry bonuses across all levels like purples) then this would become a viable reward system. Of course attach the same cool down as current pvp IO's have to prevent rapidly earning them from the same target(s).

I think your idea of merits earned via pvp is valid. I would however tie it to the rep system and allow cashing out of rep in exchange for merits.

As mentioned above though. We'd need a dev team that gave a flying **** about pvp for anything to happen.
