Protector Hamidon Raids

1. Hamidon Overview
Hamidon is the most massive enemy in the game, requiring several teams of heroes to defeat. He is a single rainbow colored oval entity surrounded by an amorphous translucent thick substance known commonly as "The Jello", "The Mold", but more appropriately called [Protoplasm]. Additionally he is accompanied by 3 sets of six monsters commonly and collectively called mitos, Mitochondria Electrolytes (blue), Mending Mitochondria (green), and Mitochondria Antibodies (yellow). Each type of mito has its own characteristics.

Inside the [Protoplasm], a hero to attain super jump like heights without using super jump (or similar powers like the [Jump Pack] or [Inertial Reduction] from the [Kinetics] powerset). It has a slow effect on the travel speed of a hero once in the [Protoplasm]. Additionally, it can interrupt most interruptible powers in the [Protoplasm]. Interrupt reduction enhancement and timing are needed to execute some interruptible powers in the [Protoplasm].

The yellow mitos are susceptible to melee damage and have a high defense to ranged damage. They fire a long ranged AoE attack, [Cytoplasmic Blast], that has the capability to stun and cause knockback. If enough are stacked, it has the capability to knock back and stun a scrapper and eventually a tanker through mez protection powers. Additionally, they have a low damage PBAoE damage aura, [Cytoplasmic Aura].

The blue mitos are susceptible to ranged damage and have a high defense to melee damage. They fire a single-target ranged endurance draining low damage attack, [Paralytic Blast], that has the capability of inflicting fear and draining endurance. This ranged attack can also jump from hero to hero (similar to [Chain Induction] from the Electrical Melee set). They also have an AoE fear and endurance draining PBAoE aura, [Paralytic Aura].

The green mitos are susceptible to all types of damage, but have a force field, [Regenerative Aura], that gives them high resistance to all damage types as well as massive regeneration. If held, the force field drops and they become much easier to dispatch. They have a self heal power and a ranged single target heal that they will use on other damaged mitos. They also have a single target low damage attack that has a –heal and -regeneration component. This attack prevents a hero from healing any damage taken once enough have stacked on them. The hero cannot be healed by other hero powers (like Aid Other), they cannot be healed by their own click heal powers (like [Aid Self]), they will not heal by base healing enhancement powers ([Health], [Instant Healing]), they cannot be healed by inspirations ([Respites]). The hero will resume normal healing once the effect of this –heal power has worn off, enough +regeneration powers are stacked to combat the -regeneration, or if the hero is defeated and revived.

Hamidon is susceptible to all types of damage. He has large base hit points and he can [Bloom] a new set of mitos once he reaches 75% (35340 HP), 50% (23560 HP), or 25% (11780 HP) (*thanks to Blazing Tiger for these numbers) of his original hit points. Please note that if you do not defeat all of the first set of Mitos, you will have to face next set IN ADDITION TO the undefeated mitos left from the previous set. Once Hamidon hits one of the HP thresholds, he will never Bloom at that level again for the duration of his existence. Hamidon has a single ranged AoE attack that has the capability of knockback, stun, –health, and -regeneration in addition to doing massive damage.

Hamidon and the mitos attacks have high accuracy, so defense is all but useless against his attacks. His attacks are special damage, so resistance is almost also completely useless. His attacks, as well as those of the mitos can be resisted by use of a single [Essence of the Earth] (known as EoE) inspiration. Use of this inspiration will put any AT at the resistance cap to all damage inflicted by Hamidon or the Mitos. It does not counter the effects of the –heal and -regeneration in the blasts by Hamidon or the green mitos nor any of the other status effects of Hami or the other mitos, however.

In summary:

Mitochondria Antibodies (Yellow Mitos)
Susceptible to: Melee damage

Susceptible to: All, once held
Resistant to: All, until held
Powers: Self heal power.
Ranged single target heal.
Single target low damage attack with –heal and -regeneration component, prevents a hero from healing by any means including targeted heals, AoE heals, click heals, auto powers, or inspirations.

Resistant to: All
Powers: Very high HP (47120 points)
Mitochondia Bloom
Single ranged AoE attack that can cause knockback, stun, –health, -regeneration, massive AoE damage.

2. The Zones

2a. The Hive
The Hive is a Trial zone which can only be accessed by 45+ Heroes. The only entrance to the Hive is a gate located on the West Side of the Eden Trial Zone. The Hive Zone should not be confused with the neighborhood in Eden that has the same name.

There are two locations of interest in this zone with the unofficial names: The Bowl, and Heroes Rock.

The Bowl is a crater like area near the middle of the zone, This is the location where Hamidon and the Mitos will spawn. It's location is 0.56 miles NW of the entrance to the zone. Coordinates: -17.1 East/West, -338.0 Up/Down, -2198.0 North/South.

Heroes Rock is Protector's unofficial Hero side Raid Rally Point. It is a large rock formation on the Southern end of the bowl. It has a large flat surface and provides a good view of the bowl and Hamidon when he spawns. It is located 0.51 miles West/North West of the entrance to the zone. Coordinates: -17.7 East/West, -173.5 Up/Down, -1654.4 North/South.

2b. The Abyss
The Abyss is a Trial zone which can only be accessed by 45+ Villains. The only entrace to the Abyss is a submarine entrance located in Grandville between the Rogue Isles Ferry and the Vanguard base entrance on the southern side of the zone.

The Abyss has a crater like area on the northern half of the zone where Hamidon and the Mitos spawn. It's located 0.76 miles North of the entrance to the zone. Coordinates: 762.8 East/West, -544.0 Up/Down, -3175.8 North/South.

The usual Raid Rally point is a ledge like area on the Eastern side of the crater. Coordinates: -26.5 East/West, -526.5 Up/Down, -3235.2 North/South.

3. Raid Team Composition
There are 3 specialized teams (the Hamidon Taunt Team, the Yellow Mito Aggro Team, the Spike Team) and the General Assault Teams.

3a. The Hamidon Taunt Team
The Hamidon Taunt team is comprised of four Tanks/Brutes (preferably with Taunt) and two to three support characters (preferably Kinetics/Empathy/Pain Domination). The role of the Taunt team is to acquire Hamidon's aggro and keep it directed away from the other heroes/villains. Even with the aid of EoEs and external buffs, it is only a matter of time before Hamidon's powers overcome even the mightiest of Tankers. Thus the need to have more than one tank managing Hamidon's aggro in a steady rotation.

Alternatively, the Hamidon Taunt team can consist of one Tanker/Brute with 4 Empath Defenders/Controller or Pain Domination Corruptor/Masterminds using Regeneration boosting powers (like [Adrenaline Boost], [Regeration Aura], [Spirit Tree], [Pain Bringer], etc) to combat the -heal and -regeneration of Hamidon's attacks (or 2 Empathy/Pain Domination and 2 Kinetecists).

3b. The Yellow Mito Aggro Team
The Yellow Mito Aggro Team is composed of 6 Tanks/Scrappers/Brutes (with [Taunt]/[Confront]) and one or two support heroes (preferably with the Assemble the Team veteran power in the case of an evacuation raid). The objective of the Yellow Mito Aggro Team is to manage the aggro of the Yellow Mitos.

3c. The Spike Team
The Spike Team is composed of primarily of Tanks/Scrappers/Brutes/Stalkers (preferably with some sort of flight ability) or (single target/high damage) Tanks. This team's sole purpose is to focus melee damage on Yellow Mitos. The Team leader selects a Mito to attack, and the rest of the team follows along to quickly defeat the selected Mito. This step is repeated until all of the Yellow Mitos are defeated.

3d. The General Assault Teams
The General Assault Teams are composed of any and all other Heroes/Villains not on the previously mentioned three teams. This team's focus is to follow the Targetter (a Hero/Villain who will be selecting the target that the other General Assault teams attack) to defeat Blue Mitos as well as hold and defeat Green Mitos (Green Mitos have a force field that make them resistant to all damage until they are held).

4. Monster Clearing and EoEs
The Hive is normally populated by Lattice, Quarry, Stropharia, and Thorn Devouring Earth Monsters. In order to cause Hamidon to spawn, a random number of the Monsters must be defeated. Each and every Monster has the chance the drop a regular Inspiration, and each time a regular Inspiration drops, there is a chance for a second inspiration to drop: an Essence of the Earth (or EoE). In order to get EoEs, a hero must have two inspirations slots available: one for the regular inspiration, which drops first, and one for the EoE. It is advisable to have an empty (or nearly empty) inspiration tray so as to collect as many EoE inspirations as possible. The EoE, when used, will put the hero/villain at their damage resistance cap for Hamidon and the Mito's special damage type. The effects of the EoE does not stack, so each inspiration should be used one-at-a-time.

At the predetermined time, Raiders should start assembling at the Rally Point.

The Raid Leader will usually make the call to begin clearing Monsters when there are approximately 35 raiders in the zone. This is considered to be the minimum number of Heroes required make a Hamidon raid proceed smoothly. The Raid Leader will either target Monsters him/herself, or designate someone else. The rest of the Heroes should follow the targetter, thus focusing firepower to quickly down Monsters, and giving everyone a good opportunity to acquire EoEs. Once a definitive, but random number of Monsters has been defeated, Hamidon will spawn. When this occurs, all of the Monsters in the Hive will flee to large doors scattered throughout the Hive. After a certain period of time, those that have not made it to doors will despawn.

5. Attack Organization
Once Hamidon is spawned, all players should re-assemble on the Rally Point.

Final invitation to teams should be sent out.

EoEs should be passed around (to the members of the Hamidon aggro team, the Yellow Mito Aggro team, and the Spike team). The General Assault teams usually do not need EoEs as the damage that the Blue and Green Mitos do is significantly lower than Hamidon and the Yellow Mitos.

The leader of the Yellow Mito Aggro team will assign to each melee member of the team to a different Yellow Mito, so that all the Yellow Mito aggro will be managed. The intention is to assign each melee member a "zone" where the Mito may spawn. There are six zones: North East (1 o'clock), East (3 o'clock), South East (5 o'clock), South West (7 o'clock), West (9 o'clock), and North West (11 o'clock, using 12 o'clock as the North most point on the mini-map). The objective is to have at least one member of the Aggro team in each zone managing the aggro of the Mito in that zone.

The General Assault Targetter will identify him/herself to the members of the General Assault teams.

Once all the team leaders have determined that their teams are ready, they should notify the raid leader, to move on to the next phase.

6. Pre-Attack Countdown
Once the teams are organized, the Raid Leader will do a final check to make sure that all of the teams are ready.
At this point he will begin a 60 second countdown:
At 60 seconds, single target buffs should be applied, such as Speed Boost, Fortitude, Clear Mind, Clarity, etc.
At 30 seconds, AoE Buffs should be used, such as Recovery Aura, Regeneration Aura, Accelerate Metabolism, and Warburg Bio Nukes as designated by the raid leader.
At 20 seconds, the Tank Team will go into the [Protoplasm] to get Hamidon's aggro.
At 10 seconds, the Yellow Mito Aggro Team will split up to manage the Yellow Mitos aggro.
At 0, the Spike Team will attack a Yellow Mito, and the General Assault Teams will attack a Blue (or a Green) Mito.

7. Mito Clearing And Attacking Hamidon
At the 20 second mark during the countdown, the sturdier member(s) of the Hamidon Taunt Team will proceed into the [Protoplasm] to acquire the aggro of Hamidon, utilizing EoEs as necessary to survive. Engaging Hamidon using attacks

At the 10 seconds, the sturdier members of the Yellow Mito Aggro Team proceed into the [Protoplasm] to acquire the aggro of their assigned Mitos (utilizing EoEs as necessary until all of the yellow mitos are defeated).

At the 0 seconds, the Spike Team will attack a Yellow Mito in force, and the General Assualt Teams will follow the General Assault Targetter in attacking a Blue Mito.

As the Yellow Mito that a member of the Yellow Mito Aggro team was assigned to is defeated, that member should find another Yellow Mito to attack until they are all defeated. A useful macro to use to find Yellow Mitos: /macro "Anti" "target_custom_next Antibodies".

Once the Yellow Mitos are all defeated. The General Assault team will switch to holding and defeated Green Mitos. The Yellow Mito Aggro team and the Spike Teams will concentrate their attacks on the Green Mito selected by the General Assault Targetter. At this point, EoEs should not need to be used by anyone except those managing Hamidon's aggro.

The member of the Hamidon Taunt Team with Hamidon's aggro will adjust his position to stay away from the General Assault team, as necessary.

Once the Green Mitos are down, ranged attacks should be used to dispatch any surviving Blue Mitos.

Once all Mitos are defeated all member of the raid can and should attack Hamidon.

8. Bloom!

8a. Evac and Reset
In the case of an Evacuation Raid, a designated member of each team should retreat to a safe location (behind a rock, out of Line of Sight of Hamidon and the Mitos, preferably close to the Rally Point) in preparation to use a power similar to the veteran power [Assemble the Team]. Once Hamidon blooms a new set of Mitos, the designated teleporter has moments to activate the teleportation power to recall all members of the team to the safe location before they take massive amounts of damage from the Hamidon and the Mitos.

Once all members of the raid party have been evacuated from the [Protoplasm] and resuscitated as necessary, the players should reassemble at the Rally Point for the Pre-Attack Countdown.

8b. Evac-less Reset
In the case of an Evac-less Raid, the team members who are not holding Hamidon's aggro should position themselves in a group opposite the character who is holding the aggro. At a point just prior to the Bloom (Hamidons HP level is 5-15% of the next Bloom), AoE Buffs should be used, and then Yellow Mito aggro team should go to their assigned zone and wait for the Mito that they are going to manage to spawn.

When the Mitos Bloom, the Yellow Mito Aggro team should immediately use an EoE and engage the Yellow Mito in their zone. The Spike team should follow their team leader and begin defeating Yellow Mitos. The General Assault teams should follow the General Assault targetter and attack Blue Mitos. And the process would then repeat until Hamidon is defeated.

I'm guessing here, but based upon my own experiences with our fellow Protectorites...

Many of this server's denizens do not wander beyond our gates, they fear the beasts in the woods.

Therefore, posting here increases the odds more Protector faithful will see - and hopefully read - it.

But, that thread Rasta pointed to IS a Protector thread.

It's... It's RIGHT there, at the bottom (for now) of the stickies...

My Stories

Look at that. A full-grown woman pulling off pigtails. Her crazy is off the charts.

To answer the question, this approaches the issue from a different angle. The previous thread answers the question: "what should I bring to the raid?" This thread answers the question: "how does Protector do the raid?"

If I were to attach this guide to that thread it would be lost in the middle of the thread. It may get missed in the conversation. Here, it is the first post.

Now it just needs to be stickied, too.

So wait I go away for a few minutes and I need to be replaced with not 2, but four tanks?

Nice job Major T. The more info people can get on events like the Hami raid, the more chance of success!

Protector been alternating Hamidon Raids between the Abyss and the Hive on Saturdays for several months now. We've succeeded in getting our raid times down to about an hour-hour and a half (beating Hamidon usual only takes about 20-30 minutes, though we've done it in less time than that on several occassions).

Why is the raid taking an hour? I'll explain...
- Getting a sufficient number of people into the raid zone: 15-30 minutes.
Although we do this regularly, it seems that many people don't want to come to the zone until we're ready to start, and we don't want to start until we have 35+ people are in the zone. It's a circular problem.
- Defeating DE GMs to spawn Hamidon: 15-30 minutes.
The last few weeks, we've have to defeat dozens upon dozens of GMs to spawn Hamidon. Although it has been great to pad our EoE stocks, it does make the event last longer than we'd like.

Small addendum as of 04/28/2011.

Right now, attempting to use the League interface to run a raid is resulting in Incarnate-level Power Lag.

Recommend using the league to initially assemble the raid, then break the league back to individual teams once you hit the monster hunt phase.

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

I have never had the chance to participate in a Hamidon raid, and I would like to change that. Is Protector doing this on any sort of schedule?

Posted

We used to have regularly scheduled raids: one group was hosting hero side raids on Friday evening/night, another group was hosting raids (alternating weekly between hero/villain side) on Saturday afternoon/evening.

Since the raid only provides shards (and not threads/components), the interest in doing them has dwindled in favor of the incarnate trials (BAF, Lambda, Keyes).

If I recall correctly, there is one scheduled for next week Saturday as part of the "Vigilance" events.

I wish every day was protector day! If the Hami Raid does not conflict with my Kheldian events I will be there

With the addition of incarnate power and changes to how single target buff powers work, it may be time to make major revisions to this post, possibly even a complete replacement thread.

It does seem to be serving the new folks well, though!
