Downloaded, can't play until downloading again?

Heya. Couldn't find a technical forum at first so I posted in the wrong forum, so just copying from that thread cause I got some answers.

I downloaded the trial version and ran it once, worked fine so I turned it off to finish what I was doing at the time. When I try to run it again it tells me I need to run the game through the updater. Fair enough, WoW does the same thing. So I do so and it starts to download the game again. 3,1gb once more. What's going on here? I can only play it after I've gone through the download process again and again? Any advice is appreciated, looking forward to trying the game but this kind of stuff is annoying.

It's downloading at the same speed as it was the first time (and normally does based on this connection). So it seems as it it's downloading the entire game once again. Anyone got any clues?

There has been a few posts about this it seems to be a windows 7 thing. I'm not sure what the fix is for updating cause I use vista but you can bypass the updater by doing this:
To bypass the updater, create a shortcut to CityOfHeroes.exe (not the updater). Right click the shortcut and click Properties. In the Target line, modify it to match this:

"C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CityOfHeroes.exe" -project coh

Seems to have worked wonderfully. Thanks!

Note that the problem isn't fixed, you just have a work around. Next time a patch comes out, instead of downloading ~1meg-100megs, you'll have to redownload the entire game.

My guess would be this is most likely a conflict between CoH's Updater and Vista/7's UAC Emulation mode.

Actually now I can't log on to the game :P My password/login seems to not work now. I even changed it and tried again but nope, not working.

The updater is downloading the game to a different location. By default, it will put it in C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes. If you installed it elsewhere, have a look in that folder.

UAC is not the problem here. The updater will always run with admin rights thanks to the name given to it.

I did this, but when I click the shortcut I'm taken to the usual loading screen, and after logging in, I get one server, "UNNAMED", which will give me Cannot connect to DBServer error message

@MidnightGuard - on Union you may know me as:

Are you an EU or NA player? EU players use 'eucoh' instead of 'coh'.
