Dark/SS...am i doin this right?

alright..this is my first serious attempt at making a real tank. my niche has always been controllers and corruptors. and before dark armor i had no interest in making one, but some months back i was dared to lvl a DA tank for funsies, so i went DA/ice to add to the humor. turns out the toon was a friggin blast to play once i hit SOs. so now that i have some extra influence aside, and after reading the "dark armor sucks" thread all the way through, i figure i will give tanking another shot. but like in the title, im goin for /ss this round for more dmg.

i have a build thats capped for s/l and i basically ignored anything else. my theory was between the moderate resists and semi-moderate defense for everything else(plus FS to mitigate) i should be ok for the vast majority of content with the heal.

any tips would be awesome b/c i really want this toon to work out.

if some things dont make sense its because i pursued this build after having been up for a couple of days..maybe more..idk. but the no travel power was on purpose

Overall, it looks great. There's a couple things I'd change.

Hurdle instead of swift, especially since you have combat jumping. The two combined work out to amazing maneuverability in combat.

Take one slot away from swift (hurdle) and give it to one of the attacks. I'd suggest Jab if you intend to use it, otherwise put it to KO Blow.

That fifth slot you have in Haymaker/KO Blow (and maybe Jab) should probably be the Mako quad for maximum enhancement values. If you add another slot to KO Blow, keep the one you have and add the Mako quad to it.

Knockback protection. It'd do you good to get another four points. Maybe that extra swift (hurdle) slot is best in combat jumping for the karma KB protect. The reason I say this is that KB is usually under 4 or over 10 in terms of magnitude. Eight points won't help any more than four in most of the content.

I'm actually curious about this powerset pairing. DA is a set I've always wanted to make work well, and SS is my favorite powerset in the game.

Is this baby you posted endurance efficient with rage stacking?

I know you said that you're primarily interested in S/L defense, but Dark also has a weakness to energy damage, and it would be very easy to increase your E/NE defense and still soft-cap S/L. Here's an example:

so far this toon is still just in his teens, but i dont see too much trouble with rage crashes. dark armor really shines when you can give yourself any kinda of mitigation outside CoF or OG.

but to help with all the end issues is why i have the miracle & numina procs, the +end proc in dark regen, plus body mastery. i intend to solo with this guy a lot once i get him into his 20s and higher when i start IOing him

ive seen this build do some insane things before so im looking forward to the higher lvls

I can tell you it works well and is a blast to play. My favorite (defined by fun factor, not min/maxing) brute has been my SS/DA for a long long time.

Edit: SS/DA endurance management was work preI9. These days there is no reason to worry about having enough end if you plan your build well.

I personally like to go for positional defense, which will work the way slotted in my build to all types. About 35% to melee/ranged/aoe, not as much to s/l but you know it works to all types, plus just a small luck will cap you to everything except mind control damage, which as a dark armor, you shrug off like your nagging grandma :P.

Upon learning that with kinetic melee, as much as i'd LOVE to keep my dark/ss tank, I think i may roll a dark/kin in its place since the /kin will also have a decent way to keep up a boosted damage, since the build I have gets FA anyways, so the dark/kin will be better on endurance by not having the unenhanceable for end redux rage crash.

I have another build that has about 27% defense, but a bit better recharge and endurance, but not by that much overall

But its still a TERRIFIC build. Here is how i've got mine:
