Most Survivable blaster?
|
The -slow and -rech in the Ice Blast primary is pretty redundant after two applications of Shiver. No question there. That's completely true. The two holds of Ice Blast aren't redundant, though. -rech isn't perfect mitigation in the way a hold is. The enemies are still gonna get the first round of attacks off. If you're facing something like a Malta Sapper or any mob that mezzes, chances are you wanna mez them first, because even one attack from them would ruin your day. Having a ranged hold is invaluable there.
|
He's got a stealth IO in Super Speed so he always gets first crack, and first crack is all he needs.
But I can see how a primary that trades damage for control would create a market for that control.
| A similar situation applies for bosses. Chances are you don't wanna get tagged by a boss at all. And that's why you want two ranged holds, because one alone isn't going to do the job fast enough in that situation. |
If they're something you enjoy, I can see an overabundance of control being helpful.
| With regards to Ice/Ice equalling or outperforming controllers...it depends on the metric of comparison. I find I'm often better at locking down bosses than most controllers, and I can certainly equal a controller on a smaller team. |

My City Was Gone
if you have a few billion to spend this is the build I am working towards on my dp/em/ice blaster. 43% s/l defense, 150% recharge, 3 attacks at 127 ft (more if BR stacks).

I am an ebil markeeter and will steal your moneiz ...correction stole your moneiz. I support keeping the poor down because it is impossible to make moneiz in this game.

There's a point at which you don't need more control, assuming you do reasonable damage. My fire/ice rarely needs any control beyond what Shiver delivers by itself. I haven't played ice/ice, but it seems to me all the slow and -rech in the primary is wasted since Shiver will floor everyone anyway.
|
| Two holds also seems redundant- again, you should be doing enough damage that the difference between being at the recharge floor and being held doesn't matter. |
| The ice secondary delivers all the control a blaster is likely to need. Pairing it with a control-heavy primary is gilding the lily. |
Ice/Ice Blaster. Dedication to concept is an ugly thing.
Claws/WP Brute. Sex without the angst.
Every CoX character lies somewhere on this spectrum.
I have an Ice/Ice/Fire blaster. He actually has three holds. It really comes in handy for locking down bosses/EB's almost instantly. Out of all my blasters, this one's definitely the sturdiest. Granted he has tons of IO bonuses to set him apart from my other blasters.
I only dabble in Blasters and have an Ice/Ele and an NRG/NRG around the mid twenties.
Personally I find the NRG more survivable; the ability to keep mobs on their backsides gives good mitigation.
Just my two cents.
L50s: Tanks: Cryofission - Ice/EM - Dr Celsius - Fire/Ice - Saint George - SD/SS | Controllers: Psichosis - Ill/Kin - Major Chaos - Ill/Stm | Scrappers - Neutron Crusader - DM/SR
Currently Levelling: Angelic Blade - BS/WP Scrapper | Seeds of Destruction - Plant/Kin Controller

Yes, but unlike Warcraft, this game doesn't start at level 50. We don't all have Shiver yet, and even those that do find it helpful to have more than one.
|
when did that happen.
=(
And here I always thought Freezing Touch came after Shiver.
| That's for little things I like to call "Stacked mags" and "Multiple mobs" |
I mean, if I want 'disabled' I'll play one of my controllers.
| So it's making a beautiful thing even more unique and priceless? I agree whole-heartedly. |
An ice/ice has a lot of control, for a blaster.
If you like that, great!

My City Was Gone

a lot of good points. OP didn't specify "solo or teamed".

I'm sure there's many options/combination's that are equal for the title "Most Survivable Blaster".
setting up 15 trip mines and sniping the boss and running like hell is pretty survivable if you want to spend a hour on one mission
Actually, you could probably pick almost any combo and make it work..How you play and use inspirations is the main thing.
meh, I'll choose Sonic/EM. Siren's Call ==> Kill Boss ==> clean up minions
perma jump is ---> /up 1
