Invuln/EM

Call Me Awesome

Posted

All,

I have a character that is currently Willpower/Super Strength. However, she was originally Invulnerability/Energy Melee, and that fits her concept. While WP/SS is far superior, I just can't stop hating the Rage crash (I preferred the old one). So, between that and missing her old concept, I'm switching her back to Inv/EM.

I was just wondering how this would be for a build. It has no recharge, but I think the survivability looks ok.

Thoughts on the build?

Thanks,

Lewis

The Mako's offer ranged defense, not typed so they're less useful to you... remember that Inv has significant typed defenses already and doesn't benefit as much from positional. I'd definitely replace those with something else... I don't have Mid's handy to see your percentages but if you've already soft capped S/L defense then consider slotting Crushing Impact for the recharge bonus.

Another thing I noticed is the Numina in Dull Pain... that set doesn't offer the recharge that Doctored Wounds does which is one of the more important things to enhance in the power. I'd move the unique and heal to Health and slot 5 Doctored Wounds into Dull Pain.

As I said I don't have Mid's on this computer but from a cursory look that's all that jumped out at me. There's a few things I'd do differently but I don't see any other real problems offhand.

Rather than trying to analyze everything that is or isn't optimized about your build, I'll simply offer another, which is somewhat different. It loosely follows the model which I call 'The Full Awesome' after CMA's guide. However, I admit, even as much tweaking and re-balancing as I've done on this build, it could still be further tweaked and optimized to fit a different standard of performance.

I'll point out that it does Not have Hasten, but still garners 27% haste from IOs. Jumping speed is capped, and also has some endurance reduction. S/L Defense is Almost capped with one enemy in range of Invincibility, and others (except Psi) are substantial. The build also lacks Taunt, but slots some taunt enhancement in Invincibility, to help hold aggro.

It also has excellent Regeneration and Recovery, so you may not need Dull Pain perma'd.

CMA,

The reason I went for the Mako's Bite and the full Numina is because I was building for soft capped energy/negative. I wanted to be able to laugh off Sappers, not to mention as much damage as I can. I do have softcapped smashing/lethal already (well, 1% shy).

I don't have any global recharge, but the capped E/N was more important to me.

Thanks,

Lewis

Follow up question ....

I can achieve the same overall defenses on Inv/Elec, and I realized that /Elec still fits my original concept, but it isnt /EM. I've grown frustrated with /EM.

Which would be better, Inv/Energy Melee or Inv/Electric Melee?

Well, it would be easier to soft-cap E/NE with Electric because you'd have more AoEs to slot Eradication in.

Electric isn't as nearly hard-hitting for ST, but it has much, much better AoE than Energy Melee. Electric also has a big, hard-hitting AoE in Lightning Rod, which is awfully fun. Unless you plan to spend a lot of time fighting AVs, I'd probably go Electric.

I'll probably go Electric Melee then. I loathe Energy Melee since the changes. The character concept originally was that of a college student with a temp job at an energy company getting caught in the reactor of an experimental energy source. The accident left her invulnerable, and it made her capable of emitting some of the experimental energy source. Hardly original. But the point is that conceptually, Energy Melee and Electric Melee both fit.

Since I hate having 2 slow single targets in my build in EM (ET and TF) I think I'll have to go Electricity for concept. It just hadn't occurred to me at the time I made my original post.

Here is how I'd do it for Inv/Elec, which is the route I think I'll go.
