MA/SD Any good
Maybe a boring question. I'm not a min/maxer but after making a ar/en blaster who sits at lv 39 and is not super heroish at all, I am trying not to make the mistake of screwing up again.
For solo is there a big difference between:
Scrappers:
Ma/shield
Katana/electric
and
would a tanker with the more fotm sets solo as well as non shield scrappers?
Shield/Fire
Shield/Dark
MA hits harder than Katana, but the mitigation from DA is amazing at lower levels or if you're not doing a def cap. Shield is shield. That amazing AoE is the only reason I'd take it. Both have a mix of ST and AoE that's about even. But with MA, Shield's late blooming will have everything below the mid-30s, or more because of slots, a little more inconvenient.
I like Katana better due to the speed and DA. I also have a 50 MA/Inv who rocks. Neither is bad. If I were to solo with a shield and my focus was on my career after 50, I'd do MA. If I were more interested in the growth of the toon, Katana.
Tanks are tanks. You can go cook dinner while they stand with the aggro cap wails on them and they'll be OK, and that's about as quick as you can kill those mobs too.
That said, you're tank ideas are also good as scrappers. I have no experience with dark or Fire beyond what you can read yourself in the guides [which are sometimes woefully out of date, so watch if it doesn't have ED]. Though I know that fire does rock.
Edit - I didn't say anything about /electric. Good stuff, take all but the 38.
I'm not a min/max kind of person either. I have no experience with tankers and haven't played a scrapper with /Electric. That said, I -very- much enjoy playing my MA/Shield scrapper. As far as damage goes, Shield Defense gets an ability, available at level 16, which gives you about a 12% damage buff for each enemy in melee range. That may look small, but when you fight groups of 5+, it really adds up. Solo play earlier on -can- be a little tough, but I don't remember having much trouble. I can really only give you my opinion, not hard numbers or anything. If you can find a concept that you like for a MA/Shield scrapper, I think you'll have a lot of fun with it.
Blue Steel is also a MA/Shield scrapper.
When the boogeyman goes to sleep every night. He checks his closet for Blue Steel.
Blue Steel doesn't wear a watch. He decides what time it is.
Outer space exists because it's afraid to be on the same planet as Blue Steel.
Blue Steel uses a night light. Not because he is afraid of the dark, but because the dark is afraid of Blue Steel.
If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it. Does it make a noise? Yes. Blue Steel hears everything.
Blue Steel played Russian roulette with a fully loaded gun, and won.
When Blue Steel was born, the only person who cried was the Doctor. Never slap Blue Steel.
You can't really make a bad Scrapper. Both Martial Arts/Shield Defense and Katana/Electric would be good. Most Scrappers will solo better than most Tankers, but there is SOME overlap when you're talking about survivability-spec'd Scrappers and damage-spec'd Trankers. If you're soloing, go with the Scrapper. It has plenty of survivability for solo play, plus will put out more damage.

Ma is hella fun. It has less aoe than kat but solo that won't really be an issue, until higher up when you start settin to +8 and such. ma/sd might be a little hard on the ole blue bar. cobra stike can be cool for solo play, but in group play its about pointless if u ask me.
Came back after 3-4 year break. Making a scrapper as soloing my tank is too slow for my taste. Would like to make a real strong single target solo scrapper. Will this set be good or will I be better off with my katana/electric?
