Old Kat/Reg respec with SOs - 11% def. worth it?

Hey all,

I'm an old player returning to the game. I've been working on figuring out how to respec my 50 Kat/Reg to make him useful for making inf. to fund my other toons. I don't really want to go into IOs right now with him. I'd rather make him viable and save the inf. if possible.

In general, I'd be happy to hear any advice people have about a solid SO-based lvl 50 build.

More specifically, I'm curious if people think I'd be better to focus on maximizing whatever defense I can muster - only about 11%, I think, with maneuvers, weave, and CJ/hover, which would leave me with no stamina and a recov rate around 1.3/sec, I think. Or, get what defense I can while using less end. and maybe running assault to kill things a little more quickly.

Any thoughts you have are greatly appreciated.

I think the defense from maneuvers is a little low. Tough and weave are ok. For defense, you can double-stack divine avalanche, which can soft-cap your melee defense. I would pick hasten for the fourth power pool. It speeds up your attacks and the long-recharging power in regeneration.

I made a SO build below. I leave the last two powers and a few slots for you to decide. You can either pick another attack, resilience, or an ancillary power pool. I think the build has enough recovery. However, you can pick physical perfection in body mastery if you like.

I've always considered Tough a must take on any toon with any Res. And even with Regen, I'd still take it.

Katana is your whole defense here. Carry some purples and make sure DA hits.

There is a guide to defense in the Guide to Guides in the player help section. I don't remember exactly, but my mental rule of thumb is that anything under 20% isn't too hot. Like when rolling a die saying anytime you get a 1 it's no damage. Not horrible, but other things would take priority.

I've always been afraid of regen for these exact reasons.
