PC cannot access internet

For some reason my gaming pc cannot connect to the internet. My conncetion is fine, I'm using my older pc to write this thread.

I show that my wireless connetion is active, and the control panel internet connetion wizard states that I'm connected to the network and the internet. However, when I start IE I set the screen saying that there is no connection with the diagnose the problem.

Theres a chance a teenage friend of my roommate's son did something to the pc since he was using it last night.

Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

edit:
Apparently mt internet works since I was able to log into COH, but IE is not working. I think a file might have been corrupted. I'm guessing I need to reinstall IE, but without a working browser how do I do that?

tools > options > Connections > Lan Settings > make sure proxy is not checked.

Also checks and see if the browser is in offline mode...if it is that could be the problem too.

This happens generally when i get a malware program that blocks spybot, task manager, etc from coming up... If you can't access those, flip your PC off and then on... as soon as windows gets to the point programs are beginning to load, open up task manager and spybot. This works because you've opened up task manager before the malware program loads... look for a weird group of lettering program, end it, and then run spybot. That will fix that problem.

I downloaded Opera on my older pc and attempted to install it on my gaming rig, but it also could not access the net.

First time it happened to me it took 2 days to figure it out... since then I can solve it in 15 mins or less.

generally happens when you look at certain sites... you should probably smack your friend as the more you do that type of stuff the less efficiently your PC will run.

sounds like some smacking already occurred. If you get my drift.
